In summary - . ✔️ relative STRENGTH is critical for NON strength sport athletes . ✔️ Strength ⬇️ chance of injury (ie keeping your best athletes on the park) . ✔️ Strength is the foundation of ALL other bio motor qualities (Power, Speed, Change of direction, repeat effort, aerobic etc) . ✔️ Focus on getting strong & efficient on my BIG6 (6 BIG, BASIC movements that will be the core of every program you EVER write) . ✔️ intensity (weight) should be ⬆️ (80% + 1RM * IF lower trained just learning the skill of the movement will get the athlete stronger), reps LOW (1-6), rest periods LONG (3-5 mins) * educate athletes on the INTENT to move the weight fast regardless of how heavy the external load is . ✔️ Focus on 1.5 X min lower body squat & deadlift (choose variant that works for your athlete) & upper body 1 x BW for males & 0.6 - 0.8 x BW for females (bench press & bench pull) . ✔️ Strength training derives more “neural” (CNS) rather than muscular changes (ie develops your nervous system ability to recruit & do so quickly fast twitch motor units . ✔️ strength makes you harder to kill if there is a zombie apocalypse LOL 😆 . I wasn’t planning on rowing anymore today but when I checked out the #Concept2 #FallTeamChallenge #FTC standings and saw that our team needed about 5k to move up two spots, I figure I can throw in a half hour of Just Row. Then the wife walks by and said, “…watch it go down after you row.” 🙄 After 30 mins, we dropped 1 spot. Gee! Thanks for that, babes. #jinx 😣

The Pendlay row is probably my favorite back exercise. It not only strengthens your entire posterior chain, but also improves explosiveness in your deadlift. It demands stabilization of the lumbar and spine in the bent position, which is crucial for a successful deadlift that doesn’t fuck up your back. • It’s simply a heavy row from the floor. The bar is set over the mid-foot in a conventional stance. Row the bar to your chest with a flat back and set it back down between each rep. It’s actually a pretty satisfying move in a weird way. I feel so...aggressive. 🐅 • While my heavy deadlift hiatus begrudgingly continues, I’m optimistic that I haven’t lost tooooo much deadlift strength because I have been incorporating Pendlay rows plus... 💥Pull-ups/chin-ups 💥Hanging knee and leg raises 💥Lat pulldowns 💥Barbell hip thrusts 💥Loaded carries • Studies have found that pull-ups and pulldowns can improve deadlift strength (hello, lats!). Hanging exercises, loaded carries, and Pendlay rows help with grip strength among many other things. Barbell hip thrusts also help with explosiveness and keep my lower body strong. Plus they allow me to have heavy weight on me without aggravating the minor (yet persistent) hammie injury. • At the end of the day, specificity is king and the key to a strong deadlift (or any lift) is performing it regularly. That being said, I have found that deadlifting is a less is more movement so I’m hopeful that when I get back to it I won’t have lost too much. What a Thursday! I knew this would be tough and tough it was! 2000m row ✅ 300 body weight reps ✅ 5k run ✅ the rom game of and I managed a steady speed and got the row done in under 9 minutes- of n hindsight maybe I could of gone harder here! 300 reps seem like a lot but I had a game plan of what I would break up and how and I stuck to it! Then it was the big test. I guess to some 5k is a walk in the park but it’s tough to me. I just found a pace I was happy with and went. For the first half I did 3mins running and 30sec power walk. By the end it was 1 minuet to 15 sec to off. Really had to just zone out and keep going. The end was in sight and I just went for it. Thanks to the whole team for the support throughout! Especially @itsalexbull @cemahmetpt @jodie.georgie it means a lot from r the support you give me! Bring on the next challenge!! Now to set new goals!! Arm Row. . I love the TRX version of this exercise and I wanted to see if I could recreate it on the caddy using the trapeze bar and springs on the top frame. Ohhh it worked! . . Start by straightening your arms and walking forward until you’re at an angle, on a breath out pull upwards towards the handles, keeping your elbows in to your sides. Try and keep your alignment throughout, watch for rib flare and over extension of the lumbar spine. . . Such a great exercise for strengthening your back, arms and shoulders! 🙌🏻 . . #pilatescadillac #trx
