Contra & Super C
Genres: Run & Gun, Platforming
When I'm not gaining EXP in battles, I'm blasting my way through 8bit baddies with the contra games. They are notorious in the retro community for three things: 1) The challenge 2) The selling price 3) the Konami code!
Up, up, down, down, left, left, A, B, START!
Right. The game pulls no punches by letting players lose a life by one hit. It was the challenge factor that made me want to play the rest of the game and make use of the code. Just to bring this up, this game on the nes isn't rare, but goes for $30 and the reason for this is thanks to Gaming Youtubers not shutting the fuck up about these games, which is why your so-called obscure game may be in the spotlight someday and overpriced online.
Enough about the game. Do I have any memories with this as a kid? Yes! I experienced this game through a plug & play. The many winters days of playing in the living room with a bootleg red N64 controller with a Genesis controller connected.
However, the game popular on the bootlegs was Super C rather than Contra. Which was it's sequel, people like to brush it aside simply because they've got nostalgia out the butt for the first game. But personally, Super C's OST > Contra's OST.
The series got enough tougher on the Genesis and Super NES with an attempted revival with Contra 4 on the DS.
How crazy would it be to see a Contra character in Smash bros? Pretty much a zoning character with spammable projectiles! I mean, Konami's been kind with Snake and the Belmonts appearing. Go all the way, dude, Contra needs love.
