At the mouth of this cave i ceremonially asked permission of the ancestral spirits of that land, to play yidaki for them. Its a well known ancient limestone cave S/W Western Australia. I was first person through the gate that early crisp autumn morning. Not the first time I'd played in a high energy space. Got real quiet, listened, felt no resistance. Just peace. So took a deep diaphragmatic breath & began playing, hair on arms like static electricity, hightened senses double checking, too much respect to be forceful. That yidaki is in key of E with E toot. Playing hard tongue, tight cheeks, in the peripheral i sensed non physical movements poping up from behind moss covered limestone rocks. The sentinels, i felt approval wash all over me. So without second guessing, banishing doubt, i continued the drone & slowly walked in. Subtle artificial lighting, in the peripheral, many many more silhouette movements, inner hearing sensed old language excited murmurs, kept playing, early morning cave party with sacred spirits was on.! Told my companion back at the pay gate, take as many photo's as you like, no flash, what ever happens keep absolutely silent & In-joy the sound experience. That profound little yidaki journey lasted an hour or so. Other visiting folks came hung around a while & left, just kept playing that stik. At one stage in a self induced trance came back to consciousness lying flat on that cool damp cave floor, still playing, yidaki pointing straight up. I intended it to be a gift, a gesture of love & respect. Instead it was me who received the gift. I felt many hands on shoulders & saw many beautiful spirit faces come visit behind my closed eyes.
Breathe deep seek peace. .
