📣🛑📚CONFESSION: I was rejected by my very first literary agent today. You see, I wrote this young adult fiction book. It took me about two years because I would get on a roll, and then doubt my work, and even more, I would doubt MYSELF, and I would quit. 😫But, with the help of some fierce ladies, ( @demareenicole @klgoody @tdgoody
!!) I soldiered on.
📒I’ve now finished my second draft, enrolled in the University of Google, learned how to write a query letter, and have started submitting my book 📖 to agents. I got my first response today, which was a “no.” Why am I writing this? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💪🏼Because one day, my book is going to be on shelves. One day, I pray you’ll be able to pick up a copy and carry it around with you to coffee shops and airports. One way or another, my book will be published. But I wanted to chronicle the journey through the barrage of “no’s” until that shiny “yes,” because I don’t want to appear like a product of “yeses.” Oh, no. Friend, I am a puzzle full of pieces that said “defeat” and “rejected” and “not good enough.”
⚡️I piled all of those pieces back together with the glue of resilience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📚That’s why this book will see the light of day. Not because it’s the most brilliant piece of literature to hit paper (even though I’m really proud of it!). Not because I am uniquely exceptional (even though I’m really proud of me!) But because I’m not taking “no” for an answer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🎨The road to what we want is made far more beautiful by the rusty reroutes. I believe in you, and I believe in my little book, too. Xoxo 💋 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
