How about this villa to stay with your friends/family? . Travelling with friends and family is quite common, even on safari, and having your own villa doesn't mean that you are missing on the safari experience: you have your private guide and chef, so it is similar to staying in a lodge, minus the other guests. . This beautiful house is called Luangwa House, and as its name indicates, is situated in South Luangwa National park, Zambia. This is such a beautiful park teemed with incredible wildlife and magical scenery as the light changes through the day. . And if you are interested, you can visit one of community project, which can include schools which have been built, tree planting, and a new library. This needs to be pre-arranged and requires a donation toward the project, and is a wonderfully enriching experience. . Contact me (geraldine@morellitravel.co.uk ) to organise your safari in Zambia and beyond.
A very touching moment captured in the Masai Mara last October on safari with my children. . Giraffes have been the most popular posts on this account in 2018, and understandably so. ❤. But did you know that they are endangered? . Numbers for the mammal have declined by 40% over the last 31 years due to humans encroaching their habitat. . There are nine giraffe subspecies and five of them are declining, two are improving and one group is stable. The Kordofan and Nubian subspecies are listed as critically endangered and the reticulated giraffe is listed as endangered. 😓 . 📸: @gm_wildnfree

I mentioned this lodge in my story today as it is included in a great offer for a 10 day trip to South Africa. Ask for more details if you missed the story! . The Kuzuko Lodge is a 5 star lodge ranked as one of the best lodges in the Addo area renowned for it sighting of Lion and Elephant. Easily accessible as only about 1.5 hours drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport, it is situated within a private reserve of the Addo Elephant National Park -malaria free- with uninterrupted views of the Karoo Plains and the Zuurberg Mountains. Kuzuko lodge also offers a wide range of activities such as game walks, cultural exploration, kids and junior programmes, pampering and more. It is also involved in both conservation and community project, which should matter to us too. . Contact me (link in bio) if you have any question. . . 📸: booking.com
Rhino lodge is one of the accommodation I mentioned in my story today about one of the Tanzania safari I'm working on and I think it totally deserves a post :-) It is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim and therefore a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. . I love the views of course, so beautiful, but also the fact that animals freely roam on the grounds of the lodge! . 📸: http://www.ngorongoro.cc

Thinking of a client who's flying to Nairobi tomorrow and before going on a magical safari in Samburu National reserve, was curious to see what Nairobi national park was all about. . This photo is a typical view of a safari you might have, as only a fence separates its wildlife from Kenya's capital city. The park, approximately 7 kilometres south of the centre, was established in 1946 and is the first National Park in Kenya. It is home to the big five but also cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. In addition to a classic game drive, you can enjoy the park’s picnic sites, three campsites and the walking trails for hikers. . Unexpected sighting isn't it? . . 📸: partner Somak holidays

If you look carefully (zoom?), you can see some silouhettes in the glowing light of the sun. There were wildebeest and giraffes walking away from our car on the plains of the Masai Mara as we were driving back to camp. Photos of African sunsets always make me feel nostalgic, and that's how I feel right now. It may sound weird but while I am happy not to set the arlam at 6am, am able to relax and spend time with my love ones over the holidays, I always miss working. Because my 'work' is all about helping to organise amazing holidays, making people happy, connecting with Africa, what's not to love about this! . . . #sunset #sunsetpics #bestsunsets #skyporn #sunsetphotography #africansunset #skyonfire #africanamazing #masaimara #kenya #visitkenya #travelagent #rareencounters #safari #dreamsafari #nature #naturelovers #wildlife #wildlifelover #natureshow #bliss #africa #nikon #teamnikon #nikon_photo #nikon_photography

Having just done a fabulous itinerary for a family with 3 days in Chobe in Botswana, 2 days in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and 4 days safari in a private concession in Hwange National Park, I cannot recomment it enough! Who would like to spend their birthday with this view? 😍 . I'm doing a very exciting 'Primate itinerary' in Uganda including this beautiful lodge, situated on a peninsula in the spectacular Lake Mutanda, between the town of Kisoro and the national parks of Mgahinga and Bwindi. In the itinerary, the gorilla trekking is on of the client's birthday in Mgahinga National Park. I know they will see the same family that I have seen last year as there is only 1 habituated group there and would love to see how the little ones have grown, how the old black back male is doing as well as the magnificent silver back and generally the whole group! . Mutanda Lake Resort is perched on Lake Mutanda peninsula in the shadow of the Virunga Mountains and offers 13 comfortable cottages combined with some of the most beautiful views on planet earth. It is a perfect base for gorilla trackers, lake loungers, volcano hikers, bird lovers as well as those looking for a mystical place in nature. . Contact me (email in bio) to make your 'big 0' birthday special in Africa! . . 📸: www.mutandalakeresort.com

I'm sharing this video that I took in Uganda as a big thank you for the recent booking of an exciting gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable forest! Hope it makes your heart melt as much as it did to mine. ❤ I guess it answers the question "how close may we be to the gorillas?" 😁. While there is a safety distance of 7 meters, the gorillas don't know that and little ones in particular can be very curious! But they could also be sitting around you and eating peacefully in which case you would just stay watching them quietly taking in every second of this magical experience. . . 🎬: @gm_wildnfree . . #gorilla #babygorilla #gorillatrekking #uganda #visituganda #eastafrica #bwindiimpenetrableforest #greatapes #cuteness #babyanimals #onceinalifetime #bestofuganda #bewowed #magicalmoment #rareencounters #bestencounters #heartmelt #videooftheday #africanamazing #lovemyjob #travelinspiration #traveltheworld #discovernewplaces #safarispecialist #instatravel
I am doing such exciting itineraries at the moment! A new one came up for a family and I'm offering two itineraries, one in Kenya and one in Tanzania. I'll have to show you some of the camps and lodges as they are too beautiful not to share! . One of them is Tarangire Treetops, which is is situated in a Maasai concession area, 45 minutes from the Boundary Hill gate to the Tarangire Park. What makes this lodge special is the spectacular views of Lake Manyara, Mount Kilimanjaro and the beautiful Rift Valley wall. The 20 luxury houses are built on stilts in the branches of baobab trees. It is perfect to relax for a couple of night but you can also go on morning and evening game drives, bush walks and visits to a nearby Maasai village. Romantic bush meals and sundowners can be arranged and I think it'd be a shame not to experience this! . If you go on the elewana collection website, you can even see live cams, which I am definitely going to follow when my clients go there! . 📸: www.elewanacollection.com/tarangire-treetops

Off they go into the wilderness as we said goodbye to many herds of elephants on our first drive in Amboseli National Park back in October. The rest of the herd was behind but we were surrounded by elephant of all sizes! Such an incredible place highly worth visiting if you're going on safari to Kenya.❤ . I chose this photo for my new business cards that really needed an update as I feel that it represents Africa so well with its big open landscape, blue skies, green Acacia tree, dry savanna and of course, elephants. Hard to choose among all my photos and hope they'll come out nice. 😀 . . 📸: @gm_wildnfree #elephants #wilderness #acaciatree #savanna #blueskies #landscape #thisisafrica #amboselinationalpark #kenya #visitkenya #businesscards #rareencounters #travelagency #personaltravelagent #lovemyjob #africanamazing #africandream #myphotos #mypassion #safari #safarigoers #photooftheday #discovernewplaces #amazinplaces #amazingafrica #findyourself #bewowed
Big ❤ for Sable Sands lodge in Hwange national Park that I'm including in an itinerary for a family safari in Zimbabwe. . This ‘off the grid’ eco friendly safari lodge is family owned and offers a truly wild experience with exceptional elephant encounters. The lodge overlooks the ancient riverbed of the famous “Dete Vlei” and is located within a private Forestry Concession on the outskirts of the unfenced and world-famous Hwange National Park. . Sable Sands offers 16 spacious and open-plan thatched ‘rondavels, is child friendly yet has no fence for a truly immersive African experience. . The main area holds the restaurant, lounge, library and bar with full views of the ‘Dete Vlei’ and the Sable Sands solar pumped “wildlife water- hole”. In addition, a quaint tree house and solar powered pool allow for guest to cool off during the heat of the day. The lodge also supports conservation projects for wild dogs and cheetahs as well as the community Sandra Jones Centre, which is a home for orphans and abandoned babies and children in crisis. . This lodge has everything you wish for! . .📸: booking.com and sablesands.co.zw
Today is International Cheetah Day! 🐆 . Namibia has the largest population of cheetahs in Africa but many of them roam farmland throughout the country. This has become a major problem as farmers have been trapping and shooting them to protect their livestock. On my wildlife conservation account @wildandfreecharity , I explain how the Conservation Cheetah Fund organisation implemented a successful program to protect both livestock and cheetahs. . I have been fortunate to see cheetahs in the wild in some but not all my safaris, however the Masai Mara has really offered some spectacular sightings like this photo I took one evening with a Cheetah mum and her three cubs feeding on a freshly killed impala. . There are other perfect habitats for cheetahs in Africa where you may be lucky to see them. Contact me if you'd like to see these amazing rare cats in the wild and help you organise your safari. . 📸: @gm_wildnfree
I absolutely love getting my teeth into long and varied itineraries like one in Namibia. If you have time to fit a trip up North and wish to visit Himba villages, love exotic birds or simply want to relax with amazing views, Epupa Falls Lodge & Campsite is one not to miss! . This privately owned lodge is situated on the banks of the mighty Cunene River, and offers the best seats in the house when it comes to viewing the Epupa Falls as each of the 5 chalets have a breath-taking view right onto the falls. . So if Namibia is on your wish list, contact me (email in bio) to discuss your itinerary! . 📸: epupa.com.na & booking.com
I'm so happy to include Rwanda in an itinerary! Not always so popular since the gorilla trekking permit cost increased a lot but there is so much more to see. Have you heard of the Nyungwe Forest National Park? It is one of the last mountain rainforest habitats on the planet. Without a doubt, the main attraction is the primates. Go Chimpanzee trekking and see many monkeys such the Ruwenzori colobus (the largest arboreal troops in Africa), the beautiful Hoest's monkey as well as silver monkeys, golden monkeys, owl-faced monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and more. Set on the edge of this iconic park, you will find the One&Only Nyungwe House amongst the rich tea-plantations of Gisakura, a luxury accommodation to complete the dream scenery and experience. . Tempted? Contact me (email in bio) to discuss your next holiday in Rwanda and/or Uganda. . 📸: from booking.com

Amazing news from Lonely Planet announcing that Zimbabwe comes 3rd in the top 10 countries to visit in 2019! . "A journey to Zimbabwe will take you through an attractive patchwork of landscapes, from highveld, balancing boulders and flaming msasa trees, to laidback towns, lush mountains and lifeblood rivers. Here you can spot the Big Five (leopard, lion, rhino, elephant and buffalo) in its national parks, discover World Heritage–listed archaeological sites and stand in awe of one of the natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls." . I am delighted to be working on two new safaris for families in Zimbabwe and hope many more of you will also take the plunge! . . Source: Lonely Planet 📸: Pixabay.com, Victoria Falls.

If you are doing the 'Northern Circuit' in Tanzania, you will visit the national parcs mentioned in the latest posts and most probably Tarangire National park. Swala Camp is a little gem located in the heart of Tarangire. It offers 12 spacious luxury tents built on wooden platforms, all facing the waterhole which is a magnet for wildlife.  Swimming pool isn't a bad spot for viewing wildlife either, in fact everywhere is wildlife heaven! . Activities from Swala include game-drives and during school terms, visits to the local school which is supported by the camp can be arranged. I know that this is something a few of you have mentioned before, together with wildlife centres so you might find it useful. . Contact me (email in bio) if you have any questions, need help with itinerary and/or quote for your next safari. . Have a wonderful weekend all! . 📸: Partner Audley Travel
It was my dream and it came true. Although the great migration can be roughly predicted in terms of location amd time, it is never guaranteed as it heavily depends on the weather, where the grass is greener if you wish. So as I only spent 2 days in the Masai Mara at the end of October, I didn't expect that I would witness the crossing the Mara river by hundreds of wildebeest, closely watched by crocs in the water. Saying that my emotions were running high is a total understatement. I don't even know how I managed to take a clear photo but I have experienced one of the most memorable wildlife sighting of my life and I shall never forget. . Photos will never give it justice, you have to be there, see it, hear it, feel it to understand how intense this moment is. Contact me (email in bio) to discuss where and when you too can live this magical spectacle of nature. . 📸: @gm_wildnfree
As I'm working on a few safaris in Tanzania at the moment and Lake Manyara fits very nicely within the northern circuit including Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro, I wanted to share my camp crush, 'andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge' that I find incredibly charming. It feels like a real jungle hideaway as you are surrounded by trees, birds and bushbabies. Built deep into the forest with minimal impact on the surrounding environment, the lodge is entirely hidden from view until you arrive. . Lake Manyara is a relatively small park and can be enjoyed on a half or full-day visit, but is best experienced by staying for 1 or 2 nights.  Its varied habitats give excellent opportunities for viewing game and birds in different situations. . Contact me (email in bio) to organise your safari in Tanzania, tailor made or package, don't miss the must see parks and reserves! . 📸: andBeyond via partner Audley travel.
Sunday morning snacking. A bizzare experience for me, I was standing on the bin to get an elevated shot of False Bay over the wall, and next thing I'm slapped lightly on my calf! It's this guy, so I jump off, and he goes about his foraging. 😂 #rareencounters
Every morning when we left the camp as the sun rose above the horizon, we were always immediately rewarded by a huge number of animals of different species, but also the hot air balloons floating in the sky for those who chose to fly over the vast plains of the Masai Mara. I remember looking for animal silhouettes to photograph, and when I saw these elephants under this balloon I couldn't help wondering how it felt for those standing up and looking down at them. It was beautiful to see and must have been magical to experience. . The Masai Mara is an exceptional reserve to visit, my children and I would never want the drive to stop for there are so many animals and adrenaline filled moments that you feel as if someone brutally switched off the TV at a crucial point in the movie 😁 There is always something happening and it is addictive. . Contact me (email in bio) if you wish to visit Kenya and live those mesmerising and unforgettable moments too. . 📸: @gm_wildnfree
The second National Park we visited last week in Kenya was Lake Nakuru. It was a 7 hours drive (with stops) from Amboseli (but only 4h from Nairobi!) and immediately felt very different: the park is much smaller, has a beautiful lake therefore the surrounding is very lush and green. You drive through a forest then into the open and there is so many animals to see, but there are no elephants in this park. We had spectacular sightings including a lion kill and some rare species. . We stayed at the beautiful and charming Flamingo hill camp inside the park and another alternative could be Mbweha Camp, tucked away in The Great Rift Valley on the private 6,400 acre Congreve Conservancy. This means that you can experience bush walks, night game drives and sundowners, and in addition you could also go horse riding, on cultural visits, cycling or why not trying a balloon Safari ending in a champagne breakfast! . Mbweha is a simple, friendly camp that offers 10 cottages built of lava stone with thatched makuti roof and decorated in contemporary African style. . Contact me (email in bio) to create your itinerary in Kenya ❤. . . 📸: Partner Audley Travel

Back from an absolute dream safari in Kenya with my children, I'm now busy doing my second favourite thing: planning safaris for clients! I have already shared photos and information of the camps where I stayed in Kenya, and would like to show  other alternatives. . We first visited the stunning Amboseli National Park and I found this beautiful camp located in a quiet, unspoilt, unique setting on a 5000 acre private conservation area 12 kms south east of the park at the foot of Africa’s Largest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. Satao Elerai Camp offers 12 luxury en suite mountain facing tents and 5 large luxurious lodge style suites. . One of the biggest advantages of Satao Elerai Camp is that it is located on its own private conservation area so you have the chance to view wildlife in private surroundings but can also go on night game drives and game walks on the conservancy, activities that are not available to the lodges located within the park. . Finally, another important and positive aspect of this camp is  its community project, a concerted effort between the Satao Elerai, The African Wildlife Foundation and The Elerai community. The concept is to provide a sustainable income from tourism for the Masai community in the area and to try and ensure that it is in the communities interest to protect the wildlife for generations to come. . 📸: http://www.sataoelerai.com

Saturday was a day I'll forever remember. I only caught two small rainbows the entire day but hiking back up the walls of this wild and rugged canyon, I came face to face with a mountain lion no greater than 12 feet in front of me after it came barreling through the trail about to snatch a small animal. The dust settled and there we were, face to face, neither of us expecting to see one another and just staring. It took me a second to realize that I was literally standing right in front of a giant cat. My stomach was in my throat and my heart was about to beat right through my chest. I decided to slowly back away rather than yell and get big. It was truly one of the most utterly terrifying, but incredible/valuable, moments I have ever had in my entire life. I've seen plenty of black bears, many rattlesnakes, a couple moose, and fished 10 yards away from two grizzly bears for several minutes in Alaskan waters, but I don't think any of those moments had me shaking quite as much as the encounter, and proximity, I had with that cat. Just. Whoa. OMG. #rareencounters #flyfishing #flowingemeralds #girlswhofish #rivers #wildcats #rainbowtrout
I haven't seen a cheetah in my past 3 safaris in 3 different countries, but the Maasai Mara is the perfect habitat for them so my hopes are high! Of course, seeing a pangolin is always on top of my list, but they are so rare.. What's exciting is that you never know what you'll see, even if you did the same game drive everyday. Being on safari is never boring, always filled with curiosity, adrenaline and wow moments. . What animal(s) or bird would you wish to see the most while on safari in Africa? . . 📸: pixabay
Just 5 days until I can feel and see the beauty of Amboseli National Park. ❤ . We'll be eagerly looking for this iconic view of Mount Kilimanjaro and searching for majestic herds of elephants as well as all other wild animals and birds calling this national parc home. Declared a UNESCO-Mab Biosphere Reserve in 1991, Amboseli is the 2nd most popular National Park after the Masai Mara National Reserve. . Is it on your bucket list? . 📸: Partner Kuoni

Taking you to Botswana today and those spectacular views from Ngoma safari lodge! . The lodge is set within the Chobe Forest Reserve, bordering the Chobe National Park and overlooking the Chobe River. . Each of the 8 elegant river-facing suites offers quiet refuge and panoramic views of the river and the floodplain. The emphasis in on space, luxury and comfort. . It is also great knowing that, developed with the Chobe Enclave Conservation Trust (CECT), Ngoma Safari Lodge is committed to making a sustainable difference to the local communities who benefit from the lodge through land leasing and employment opportunities. . Activities include a full day safari with a picnic lunch, day or night drives, birding and visits to the local community. . Just the two of you ❤...and a herd of elephants 😁. . Kanga Bush camp is a very special place in the sense that due to its location, any animal within 34km perimeter come to drink in the front of the camp. This attracts a lot of wildlife. You could call it an 'Armchair safari'. 😄 . The camp is on the only private wilderness concession and most remote part of the World Heritage Site in Mana Pools called Kanga Pan. And Kanga Pan is the only known water source in the area available throughout the year... . It is rustic, charming, intimate and you go for the bush experience. In addition to the game drives, water based activities such as fishing and canoeing can be arranged in advance and on special request. But 2 activities to highlight are: - The walking safari, a speciality but also a very personal experience as you are the only guests in the whole concession! - The “Kanga Under the Stars” experience, in other words 'sleep out on an open platform under the starry African night sky'. . Doesn't it sound like a dream to you? Contact me to make it a reality. This camp is on top of my list! . 📸: Kanga Bush Camp
If you've already been on a safari, you may have noticed the level of excitment displayed by the guides with certain sightings. And wild dogs are one very special and exciting sighting for sure. They are critically endangered, they are constantly on the move so very hard to locate - unless they have pups and therefore need to return to the den-, they are incredible hunters but also very rare. . With my obsession about Zimbabwe still in full force, I just wanted to point out that you may well see them in Mana Pools and that alone should make it a top destination to go on safari. Let alone all the other predators, birds, crocs, hippos and numerous herds of elephants... . . . 📸: partner Audley Travel
I recently posted about experiencing a Bush & Beach holiday in the same location in Saadani, Tanzania, but did you know it also exists in South Africa? Oceana Beach & Wildlife Reserve is the only wildlife reserve on the beach in South Africa. The malaria free reserve is situated in the Eastern cape and offers exclusive and luxurious accommodation with incredible views and unspoilt beaches. . You could go on beach walks, surfing and game drives or enjoy the library with books and DVDs ad their the curio shop. . Perfect for families who do not wish to travel too long distances between the bush and the beach or if you don't have a long time to spend in the country. It's only 10 min from Port Alfred airport too! . 📸: https://oceanareserve.com
I'm so excited to attend the Bushtrack Academy training on Thursday for a whole day of discovery about Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. There is always so much to learn and meeting the people who live and work there is a great priviledge. . Coincidentally, I've been talking a lot about Botswana in the past week. So I thought I'd highlight one absolute no brainer reserve to go to if you visit the country: Moremi wildlife reserve, known as one of Africa's most beautiful safari areas. . Camp Moremi offers 11 luxury tents and is raised high above the ground, overlooking the beautiful Xakanaxa Lagoon in the eastern Okavango Delta. Food is meant to be exquisite there too. . The lodge also boasts a sundeck, plunge pool, covered boma, and an elevated game viewing platform at the water's edge, affording magnificent views over the lagoon - the perfect spot for sundowners after the day's game viewing and activities. . So if you're heading to Botswana, make sure you spend a few days in Moremi wildlife reserve and contact me to help you organise your safari.
This month has been all about Kenya! Not just on a personal level as I'm preparing to go in 3 weeks but the large majority of safari requests have been about discovering this beautiful country. I'm so excited for all who will be going in the next 2 months! . Between the views of Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli National Park and the vast plains of the Masai Mara, it is easy to add a stop at one of the famous lakes such as Lake Nakuru. . Famous for the millions of flamingos you can see, it is also possible to see up to 400 species of birds: hundreds of pelicans, spoonbills, yellowbilled storks and more. Sounds like paradise to me! . Why not staying in one of these 10 charming cottages at Mbweha, tucked away in The Great Rift Valley on the private 6,400 acre Congreve Conservancy and nestled up against the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park. In one month exactly, I am returning to Kenya, the country where my passion for African wildlife was born 15 years ago. . The lodge featuring in today's post is the very first lodge I went to in Kenya on my very first safari. It had such a profound impact on me as in addition to game drives, you could see so much wildlife from the lodge itself. They say the best TV in the world is the bush TV, and I couldn't agree more. Non-stop entertainment guaranteed! . The beautiful Salt Lick Lodge is set in the heart of the private Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, and built atop stilts overlooking a waterhole that are linked by suspended walkways under which elephants and other animals may come and potter. It offers magnificent views over the vast plains of Tsavo. The name 'Salt Lick' comes from its setting - a natural salt lick which was a congregating place for the neighborhood's salt-hungry residents. . Kenya is a very popular safari destination and even if you have been, there might be a few of the 54 national parks and reserves that you yet have to visit.
