My canyoneering adventures often bounce back and forth on the spectrum from hardcore/intense routes w my crew to weekends like this, introducing others to the thrill of running canyons. Oftentimes I’m asked, “what’s in it for you?” Well, I LOVE being able to show others the ropes, and being able to see the joy they find in doing something challenging and proving to themselves that they can DO IT. This past weekend was a special time for me being able to take my family in their first canyon.
In case you missed it... this here is my mom. She’s 74 years old, and she’s recently taken up canyoneering. Over Thanksgiving she got some rappelling practice in, and this past weekend she dove in head first into her first canyon. 3+ hours of adventure, with a 700’ climb up, 4+ raps (up to 120’), down climbing, etc... and she absolutely crushed it. I couldn’t be more proud of her (and the rest of my family). I’ve been dying to take them, and I hope this is the spark they needed to want to go more and more. As for my mom, I guarantee she’s ready for another go! 😉🤘🏼
