I saw this in Memphis a few years ago and it had me thinking well after the photo op...
A great story is so much more than a carefully chosen snapshot of life in a social media post. It’s filled with ups and downs and everything in between. It’s never interesting without great challenges and the courage to rise and make meaning from what life throws.
Here is to living and loving our great, complicated, and unfolding stories! 💜

One year ago, I came out to my parents and to anyone else.
In the last year it was very exhausting to be who I am. I struggled a lot, just with the fact, that I am not normal. It was really tiring to talk with my mother about my sexuality and to explain her that it isn't just an imagination. It is still hard for me to respect that she doesn't accept my sexuality and it hurts, when she says gay people are not normal and that it is sad, if you have gay kids. But you're getting used to it.
In this year I learned a lot. I understood, why nobody understands me. I know how to deal with people, who are not accepting you, because of your sexuality. I also learned to accept it, that some people won't accept me and how to deal with it. It is still very hard for me to respect them, but I try my best.
But this year was also a very happy year, because I had so many moments where I had the chance to be who I am for the first time in my life. This year I understood why I am like that and I got used to the difference between me and my friends and family.
I had the chance to enjoy this year and I wanna thank my friends and sister, that they accept me and that I had so much fun this year.

👆🏽NASTY, AND ??? SUCK IT ! 🖕🏽
During the 2016 Presidential Campaign, Donald Trump, used the word “nasty” to delegitimize, dehumanize, invalidate, and silence Hillary Clinton. Words are powerful ways to brand people and dehumanize them. “Bitch” used to invalidate powerful, assertive women works the way “nasty” worked to fuel Trump’s agenda against Hillary and against women.
For many of us, marginalized creators, artists, and individuals reclaiming these words that have been used to silence us is radical and meaningful as a vehicle of action.
So, yes, I AM a Brown, Jotá, Queer, Immigrant, NASTY woman, and I will keep being a Nasty woman if it means vocalizing social injustices and working to deconstruct oppressive spaces and systems.
Dear Donald Trump, I have too much to say to you, but ultimately, suck this Brown, Queer, Nasty finger 👆🏽
Are you a nasty activist? 🔥

AFROPUNK 2018. STORY: being surrounded by all of the fashion, art, music, and beautiful melanin was amazing and seeing Janelle Monáe perform live was absolutely incredible. these days, I find it seriously rare that singers' live performances sound remotely as good as their recorded tracks. which sucks because I personally appreciate the artists' talent in person more than the produced/edited radio bop. it was SO refreshing and inspiring to see a singer with such energy, charisma, thoughtful lyrics, AND HER VOCALS WERE ON POINT!! (imagine that -- a non-pitchy live performance *gasp*.) Anyway, it was awesome and if I thought I had a crush on her before... 🔥😂
a little throwback. take me back to the magic. 🔮✨
