Cinnamon and cream protein waffles 😍 Say whhhhhhaaaaaaatttttt?? How have I never tried this before?! I finally see why everyone loves it so much. Protein is the hardest macro for me to hit most days which is why I LOVE making protein waffles (or pancakes) for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Super simple, super easy and always delicious. Plus it’s one of the only things my sister says I cook well 😝 2scoops protein powder, 3 tbsp liquid egg whites, 1/2 tbsp baking powder, a splash of water. Mix, pour, and voila. 🥞🥞🥞 top with Walden Farms magical macro friendly syrup and you’re done! // LOVE FOOD // As most of you already know, nutrition is one of the most important things when it comes to making progress in the gym 🏋🏽‍♂️ . Depending on what your goal is, your nutrition should always be based on that goal. But it all starts with finding out what your ‘maintenance’ calories are.. 📈 . You hear me talk about being above or under maintenance a lot. Maintenance is basically the amount of calories YOUR body needs to stay relatively around the same weight. Being below maintenance means losing weight, above maintenance means gaining weight 🍔 . But what changed for me when I started tracking my calories is my relationship with food. I used to have trouble eating enough. Now I look at what my body NEEDS. I now focus on what I need to get to my goals which makes it easier for me to see the importance of good nutrition 🤔 . The way I look at a plate of food these days is like you see on the right picture. Either I estimate the calories and macros or weigh them out if I have my scale with me. But either way I’m aware of how much protein, fat and carbs I get in 🍨 . TIMELINE OF MY EXPERIENCE WITH EMOTIONAL EATING . 2003-2006: 3 year Emotionally/Verbally abusive relationship. Self worth was ZERO. . 2006-2007: Became obsessive with how “skinny” I looked in my cheer uniform (Yup! I was a cheerleader 📣 bet you didn’t know that lol). I thought my body defined me & my worth. BARELY ate & when I did, it was straight sugar. . 2008-2010: College. Never ate breakfast & up all night. Pretty much ate Chicken Alfredo, Bagels, & Ice Cream 🍦 . 2010-2013: Legal to drink. Partied a lot. Barely ate all day, but late night munchies GALORE. Found myself seeking acceptance from men & friends. . 2013 - 2015: The Summer of 2013 I gave up on myself & drank my sorrows away. I looked at food like I would gain 20 pounds from 1 meal & was at my lowest in confidence. Also found myself in ANOTHER toxic relationship. . Latter of 2015-2018: Enough was enough. Fed up with my own bullshit. It was time to get my shit together & rebuild my life. Did the work to heal the relationship with myself & food, forgave myself my pain & any pain I caused others, increased confidence, & found Spirituality. . Hello friends! I don’t know how many of y’all remember (or even care 🙃) but back in May I started my journey into being more healthy & making better choices for myself. I set a goal to lose some weight because I had become very unhappy about how much weight I put on through the stress of undergrad (& even grad school too)! It started out as me eating less & running almost everyday. Which was great in the beginning. I lost about 10lbs, but eventually got to a point where I wasn’t loosing anymore. It was so frustrating! Little did I know, I was starving myself - which put my body in muscle-eating mode (the most technical way to put that, haha) - allowing me to do nothing but maintain my ‘fat’. So with the help of my wellness coach, Beth 💓, I have learned how to eat healthy (& I feel like I eat 24/7 - no more starving myself! Yay 😁). Snacks are my bff now, seriously. Anyway, something that really helped keep me accountable to eating right was Herbalife. Beth got me all set up to order products to make the meal replacement shakes at home, which I started back in mid-July... as of today, I have lost 12lbs! I feel amazing. The picture on the left was taken back in May & the one on the right was very recently. Look at the difference in just my face, y’all! I’m glowing in the second one! I’m meeting my goals & getting closer to where I want to be! It’s been such a fun ride getting to here & I am so excited to see where I am at in another few weeks! 💪🏻 Training Tip Tuesday! 💪🏻 . Eat your protein, folks! . I think there’s a misconception, especially among women, that consuming protein will make you big and bulky, but that is so so false! 🙅‍♀️ Plus, strong is the new skinny, am I right?! 💪🏻 . Protein is actually essential for both fat loss AND muscle growth! . Our bodies stay in one of two states: catabolic or anabolic. . When we’re in a catabolic state, our bodies are storing fat and using muscle as it’s energy source. . On the other hand, when our bodies are in an anabolic state, it is burning fat as energy and building lean muscle! Aka making the gains you want to see! . To get the body from catabolic to anabolic, you have to eat PROTEIN! . By consuming about 20-30g of protein (depending on the individual person) every 2.5-3 hours, your body will maintain that anabolic state, and you will be burning fat alllll day! . My favorite sources of protein are: 👉 Chicken 👉 Eggs 👉 Non-fat Greek Yogurt 👉 Lean ground beef (taco saladsss 🤤) 👉 Nuts (which also have healthy fats) 👉 Beef Jerky 👉 Level-1 Protein from @1stphorm (sustained assimilation, low-temp processed protein, which means it digests slowly and retains its nutrients without being harsh on the stomach - aka no gas/bloating like a lot of proteins do) 👉 Phormula-1 Protein from @1stphorm (rapid assimilation whey protein isolate, so it’s purely protein that gets to your broken down muscles ASAP after a workout for fastest recovery and muscle growth) . They help you to think, talk, listen, play sports, build muscle, even just breathe. . PROTEIN 🍗🍤 - Are the building blocks for everything in your body (blood, muscle, bone, etc.). Think of a LEGO set. You’ve got to put the LEGO pieces together to create the LEGO empire. You need protein to continue building your body when cells dye off. . FAT 🥑🥜 - Act as messengers/transporters in your body helping protein do its job. As well as used for energy & to help keep you warm during the cold weather months. . Each are EQUALLY important. Yes, that means carbs too. In order for your body to function as a walking human + create the physical results you’re looking for, you must consume all 3 of these daily and in the correct amounts. .
