Candles are always a good idea. We occasionally lose power here in San Miguel so having these on hand becomes a necessity along with flashlights. I keep them all around #casalala
more because I love the flicker of candlelight, especially reflected in the wavy sparkle of handblown recycled glass, than for practical reasons. Everything looks better in candlelight ( including me - I am no dummy 😘) and having the glass votive also contains the flame which is obviously safer but also gives off more light by reflection. We got our nixel advisory warning that Pacific Gas and Electric was turning off all electrical power in Calistoga due to the high winds and fire danger 3 days ago. A good idea considering the devastation suffered last October from the spreading #Calistogafires
. Once the winds subsided yesterday power was not restored. They needed to check all the lines before flipping the switches back on. 24 hours later we are apparently still without power at Summer Hill Vineyards. We continue checking with our good neighbor @calistogaranch.
Imagine running a luxury hotel (over a harvest week-end) with no power. Yikes. There are some mighty high maintenance guests at these five stars who will be very ‘unhappy’ Last year they had to actually evacuate all the guests in busses out of the valley. Talk about unhappy— fly in on a private jet - and then share a bus with mere mortals ?!?!?! Hotel managers need to cope with all kinds of emergencies. Meanwhile at #casakulanu
we have the most amazing guests celebrating a 50th birthday. @7butterfly77
you all are terrific. Those are some very memorable birthday candles. No power means a lot more than no lights. It means no water because well pumps can’t run which means sprinklers can’t water the lawns and on and on. We take our simplest modern conveniences for granted. A little deprivation makes us so appreciative. I would not have been a good pioneer. Candles to make pretty is one thing. Candles fir necessity ???? Not so much. Hope that power comes back on soon. Meanwhile I am shipping a whole lot of these votives from @crema_market
