I was at the opening of the Moving Wall in Meadville this week. Here are a few photos from the display, which is open to the public through Monday afternoon.
Marlen Brumagin cries while looking for the name of a high school friend on the Moving Wall at Diamond Park in Meadville, Pa., on Sept. 20, 2018. The Moving Wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Brumagin, 68, of Meadville, found the names of James Galkowski and Larry Beebe, classmates of Brumagin's at Wattsburg (Pa.) High School. Beebe died while serving in Vietnam on May 3, 1969. Galkowski died in Vietnam on June 15, 1969. "They paid the ultimate price for us," said Brumagin. The Moving Wall, which has traveled the country for 34 years, will be on display at Diamond Park until Sept. 24, 2018. •
Charlotte, foreground, and Richard Kightlinger, center, both 75, of Vernon Township, Crawford County, Pa., look at the Moving Wall at Diamond Park in Meadville Pa.
Charlotte Kightlinger points to Robert Westfall's name on the Moving Wall. Kightlinger, 75, of Vernon Township, Crawford County, Pa., knew Westfall when she was in high school. Westfall, who graduated from Meadville Area Senior High School, died while serving in Vietnam on Feb. 11, 1962.
