So I finally finished re-decorating our neighborhood Little Free Library! The first design was put together in a hurry and over the course of a year or so, it acquired a little bit of water damage due to a mis directed sprinkler. Recently with the help of the man who originally built it, it was repaired and I brought it home to re-design (in my backyard). When I first started painting it, I had Dr. Seuss quotes running through my head, hence the polka dots. Because the days were so hot, I often painted at night when it was cooler, using a flashlight or headlamp so not to attract too many bugs. One night I quit after 20 minutes of painting because I kept getting caught in the crosshairs of spiders spinning their webs! My skin crawls just remembering that! In the design process, I chose colors that were bright, happy and whimsical. There are actual book quotes hand written inside the library, and the front design is a spin-off of one of my rubber stamp designs. I added colored rhinestones to create a gypsy bohemian vibe and attached a pocket inside for bookmarks to share. Lastly I glued small hooks along the roof to add seasonal decor and then I placed a motion sensor light for nighttime book lovers. Once I get this registered, @littlefreelibrary
I’ll post coordinates so you all can visit!
