Food waste is a major problem. In Australia over 8 million tonnes of food waste gets sent to landfill. Once it’s there it breaks down and produces greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. Carbon dioxide is of course the climate change buzz gas but let’s not forget our old mate methane which is 25 times more potent than CO2 😱. In fact to quote the legends at Watch My Waste the amount of emissions produced each year is the equivalent of Australia’s iron ore and steel industries combined. That’s a whole lotta stinky stuff! 🤭
What if there was a different way? Where we not only stopped wasting so much, but also got smarter with the waste that was produced. Used it in a way that extends its life, diverts resources that would otherwise be needed for things (like fire lighters, cosmetics or cleaning products, see above). It’s just plain common sense.
And of course it sucks that the younger generation has inherited a whole lot of global problems but when the world gives you lemons... you might as well make some stuff! 🍋
- what does that mean to you? To me, it means making something crappy just a bit more joy filled, literally. When you live in a house full of boys, you’re going to be swabbing that toilet bowel. A lot. When it’s time to replace the ‘ol plastic loo cleaner, know there are beautiful #plasticfree
options out there that can elevate your game. It’s my “chop-wood-carry-water” concept of finding the joy, somehow. Even if that’s by investing in a beautiful toilet brush.

Twinning with the same type of breakfast from another store! BYO success this time because this collapsible container looks steadier than the silicon pouch I presented previous time. I will take whatever works.
Been in a rut because no matter how I try to reduce waste at home, my family members seem to bring in more trash everyday. Some days I just want to give up. But nah, I’m not a quitter. ✌🏼- WS #zerowastesg #IBringMyOwnSG #recyclemorewasteless #plasticfreeliving #waronwaste

Using purpose built biodegradable resin extruders, a BF Series Resin is extracted from the combination of corn starch, biodegradable ingredients, and some propriety elements. From this resin, blown film bags are then formed in a range of styles, sizes and thicknesses. We design the bags specifically for customer convenience, and to our unique, strict minimum standards of thickness for durability. The blown film bags are then printed with soy-based, non-toxic printing inks, and packaged in a wide variety of options.
We are really proud that through re-engineering this purpose-built equipment, our liners are made with significantly less electricity consumption, compared to manufacturing on conventional extrusion equipment.

What are single-use plastics? (Part 1) .
Single-use plastics, also called disposable plastics, are plastic products designed and made with the intention of it only being used once before it’s tossed out or recycled. .
Some common items are; grocery bags, packaging, straws, cutlery, cups, container and bottles. These are items that we’ve all used before and most likely on a regular, if not daily bases. .

Apparently the temperature is suppose to drop like 20 degrees between today’s high and tomorrow’s high. Global warming is freaking scary, people. 😬
I won’t launch into that topic (yet) but for today let’s just acknowledge that our thermometer said the outside temperature was 104 degrees! 🔥 So until that temperature actually drops we’re going to keep eating like it’s the middle of summer, because it feels like it is. Plus - look at this freaky fresh watermelon?? How could you resist? Also, a little mint and lime to dress it up (and eat) is so amazing. Lime because I love all things citrus and mint because it’s basically the only herb I can keep alive. #nogreenthumb
listened to gwenyth paltrow interview oprah on the first @goop
podcast last night. she's the wisest owl and I couldn't help but write down everything she said. here's one of many diamonds of wisdom I wrote down "The reason why people's lives get so complicated is because you're trying to live it for somebody other than yourself. That is the key. Make it simple, you just start doing it for yourself." 💎
Feeling very connected with Mother Nature. It’s views like this that remind me why living sustainably is so important.
HELL YEAH Catherine McKenna! Here's a snippet from this article written by Michael Gorman from the CBC:
"As part of Ottawa's move toward zero plastic waste, McKenna said federal government operations will be reusing and recycling at least 75 per cent of all of its plastic garbage by 2030. "We can't just be talking about what everyone else needs to do. We need to be taking action," McKenna said during a news conference. The effort means Ottawa will aim to eliminate plastic straws, cups, cutlery, packaging and bottles from its operations. It also includes using government purchasing power to lead change, said McKenna... In addition, on Thursday a group of companies including Unilever Canada, Walmart Canada, Ikea Canada and Loblaws joined non-government groups to announce a coalition dedicated to finding ways to use plastic rather than throwing it away."
That's the kind of change our governments need to be taking! It's a smaller step than I would like, but it's a massive step compared to other governments who are putting their heads in the sand. We are in a crisis that our own species has caused. Kudos to Catherine McKenna, the government of Canada, and the various corporations who are finally acknowledging their impact on our environment. This issue is far from over but clearly demonstrates how important it is to lead by example. Demand change and change will come. Keep up the great work my friends. 💚

“every time we spend a dollar, cast a vote, accept a job, donate to charity, quit a job, lobby a politician, switch banks, divest our retirement savings, plant some vegetables in the backyard, volunteer some time to a charity, we change the shape of the economy.” - curing affluenza, richard dennis.
i figure the same applies for the toilet paper choice I make too! so #whogivesacrap @whogivesacraptp #toiletpaper
is my most recent change/choice because:
🚽 the packaging is completely plastic free and gets delivered to my door (no more TP bulk hauls walking home from the supermarket 😝)
🚽 no inks, dyes, scents
🚽 50% of profits donated to help build toilets ♻️ 100% recycled
💵 it’s no more expensive than commercial mainstream brands
💩💩💩 it’s 3ply!

Our teeth are such a small part of our bodies, and yet, if kept clean, they generate obscene amounts of waste. Dentists recommend replacing toothbrushes every three months, which adds up to millions of pounds of non-recyclable plastic going straight into landfills each year 😳
Neglecting one’s teeth is obviously not an option, so what is a environmentally conscious, zero-waste aspirant supposed to do? Enter, these bamboo toothbrushes with charcoal bristles!!
As I’ve mentioned in the past, bamboo is 100% biodegradeable — which means it goes right back into the Earth 🙌🏼🌎 I know this seems like such a minor issue, but these small changes can add up to a big difference over the long-term.
So consider these when it comes time to replace your next toothbrush, instead of running out to the drugstore for a non-recycled, non-recyclable, non-biodegradable plastic toothbrush (or accepting the free one from your dentist) that will linger for a thousand years on Earth 🤘🏼

I had a great conversation yesterday with a nutritionist at a health/vitamin all natural pharmacy in NJ, and he told me he could feel the energy of my enthusiasm for herbalism and natural remedies. I thought that was such an awesome compliment, because I think I have been exuding a lot of enthusiasm and positive energy lately for natural and home remedies, esepcially stemming from decolonized wellness. I always try to keep in mind✔Where✔How✔By Whom and ✔Why. WHERE was this item/product made? HOW was it made (was any type of slave labor, biopiracy, child labor, indigenous exploitation involved in the making of or cultivation of this product?) WHO made this product (ties in with the how)? And WHY was this product made (maybe a deeper, philosophical question that can't always be answered but we should try). I am not morally perfect. Never claimed to be. But all we can do is try our best to uphold moral standards as best we can under capitalism🌻 With that being said, enjoy this little mad scientist vid! ☆☆my jar of vinegar and lemon peels, and stash of jalapeños for pickling got cut out of the video unfortunately, but they're there.☆☆ #reduce #reuse #refuse #recycle @stopsingleuseplastics #plasticfreeSeptember #plasticfreenewjersey #plasticfreeNJ #planetorplastic @lifewithoutplastic @plasticfreejuly #mindfulliving #sustainableliving #sustainablelifestyle #plasticfreeliving @zerowastenj @our.planet.our.home @lifewithoutplastic @get_repost #zerowastecollective #sustainable #ecofriendly #goinggreen #saynotoplastic #sustainability #gogreen #zeroplastic #noplastic #renew #chosetorefuse #saynotoplastic #herbalism #decolonizedwellness #naturalremedies #homeremedies @our.planet.our.home
🔹Reducing Produce Waste 🔹
It’s never too early to make apple pies, is it? 🥧
🍏8% of greenhouse gases heating the planet are caused by food waste!
🍏One tip to cut down on produce waste is to simply use all of the fruit produce you have to prevent waste from occurring. 🍏We’re using up all of our apples, just in time for the farmers markets tomorrow!
