⚰️Spent yesterday in the Pioneer Cemetery in Sierra Madre with veterans from the Civil War, WWI, WWII⚰️
Grafton Cemetery close to the ghost town of Grafton, Utah. I found it striking how young the inhabitants of this pioneer burial ground were when they passed.
If you're a history buff or vintage lover, or are visiting nearby Zion National Park and want to go on a little side trip, you might want to stop here. The town is small, but film aficionados may appreciate that it has been used as a set (see "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid").
More travel tidbits from my personal adventures yet to come!

Century-old Greenwood Hills Cemetery is the final resting place for many early Oregon pioneers and prominent settlers of Portland. Platted in 1882, Greenwood Hills began as the Portland Masonic Cemetery and opened in 1884 with fifteen graves transferred from the Masonic plot in Lone Fir Cemetery.
Gravemarkers in the cemetery vary from old highmarkers to the more modern flat granite markers. Woodmen of the World monuments, carved in the shape of tree trunks, are quite distinctive highmarkers as are the massive, wrought hewn boulders which bear witness to the frontier spirit of several pioneering families. During your visit, you will notice Masonic emblems and inscriptions on many of the gravestones throughout the cemetery. .

A grave from 1883 in the shape of a split tree trunk (may be a woodsman of the world but couldn’t find the quote for it)
A grave from 1882 with artificial withering flowers in Idaho Springs Cemetery
This fenced off 50’x50’ overgrown piece of land with no road access plopped down in the middle of a farmers field (seemingly randomly) in rural Missouri is the final resting place of my great great great great GREAT grandparents who died in 1859 and 1870. Only a handful of in tact stones survive and it was so overgrown and infested with ticks and enormous spiders I wasn’t able to find their stone but it is in there. The farmer told me I’m the first visitor who’s ever asked about it since he’d owned the land and was beyond shocked I even knew about it, because you can’t see it from the road and you have to walk half a mile through the cow pasture to reach it. A desolate yet peaceful place. At the time they settled here, this was the farthest west our country reached, and only a few more miles was Indian territory, the unknown. #americanpioneer #anandonedplaces #abandonedcemetery #geneaology #pioneer #pioneercemetery #dadecounty #missouri #ruralmissouri
The Nevada desert....one of the loveliest and loneliest places on earth.
We took a day trip to Idaho City. Neat old town with an even older cemetery. Out of 200 deaths only 28 died of natural cause. A lot of deaths due to gun fights during the gold rush in 1860. The hubby @the_holzwurm
just saw all the old wood 😂.

to my great-great grandmother's grave. In the 22 years the Rollands were in Otago, she was the only death, the only one to remain.
Welcome to the Virginia City, Nevada cemetery. It doesn’t get more “middle of nowhere” that this....
“Remember friends as you pass by, as you are so once was I. As I am so you must be, prepare for death and follow me.”
