I remember the first time I was in Shanghai, a city totally unknown to me apart from its airport and where I barely knew the language. I remember the first time I visited Shanghai, alone, in People's Square(人民广场). I remember how scared I was at the Suzhou railway station, because I couldn't find the ticket office.
I remember telling myself, 'It does not matter if you make a fool out of yourself while asking for directions. It doesn't matter even if you just reach Shanghai and don't know what to do and where to go. Just find a way to buy the ticket and go for it.' I also remember how scared I was of being ripped off by taxi drivers because I am a 外国人（waiguoren-foreigner)
I achieved something that day, but I didn't pat myself on the back to congratulate myself. I didn't realise the step that I had taken out of my comfort zone.
Today, I visited Shanghai again, the nth time this year, and I was in People's square, the place I came to the first time I visited Shanghai and alone this time too. This time was different. I was confident, chilled, relaxed. I looked at my surroundings and felt at home.
I realised how much I have grown during these three years in a country which I have come to like.
