🐄🐄🐄Brad and I went out to our pasture this morning to check on our Texas Longhorns (TLH). Yes, we recently became the owners of a few TLH with our wonderful neighbours, @missdreas
The four of us truly care about these animals and are amazed by their calm, brilliance. We believe in raising these beauties in their natural environment and are so grateful to have the land to do so. It's important to us to have a connection with each of these animals and to know how they are raised. They will provide our families with so much nourishment that I can't help but feel extremely grateful for them and what we are learning in this new journey.
Thank you @sj.originals
for the stunning picture of Zilla. He looks intimidating but is actually very gentle (and I didn't even grow up with cows and can now say that... after some time getting used to them).
Free range = happier, healthier chickens = quality and delicious food for you and your family. It really is as simple as that. What are your Sunday grill plans? #youdeservethis
Repost from @anyafernald
We are almost done pasturing our chickens this year. Next stop will be the garden (so they can dig up some unwanted bugs) and then the barn...
Guys, my parents were in town this week. When they come to town, we cook like crazy. Like breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner kinda crazy.
My girls are all molting. We are getting about one egg a day.
So, I had to BUY, f*cking eggs this week!!! The egg on the right is an organic ‘cage free’ egg from good ole @krogerco
. The egg on the left is from our free ranging, pasture raised, vitamin c gettin, bug hunting, organically fed babies. Know your food y’all!!!
Guess who's in the NYT for this article on "Finding a Better Bratwurst"? We're so excited to be included, along with our friends at @thepiggery
! P.S. We're making a fresh batch of brats in UES now, come celebrate Oktoberfest! Article (link in bio): http://bit.ly/betterbrats

Did you know? A pig's squeal can be as loud as 115 decibels – that’s 3 decibels higher than the sound of a supersonic airliner. #pigfacts
Starting this Sunday off right with some crispy bacon from Blue Sky Ranch, couple of sunny side up eggs and coffeeee 🥓🥓🥓
Grazing buns. Creating a 'tractor' for rabbits was a challenge but allowing them to eat fresh grass & forage was very important to us. After a few designs & more then a few escapees, voila!

This spring we added some Speckled Sussex hens to our flock for the first time. Unfortunately they all got eaten by coyotes, except for this sweet one ❤️ She’s turning out to be quite the pretty chickadee 🐓
There are people behind the food that we raise. This is Tina and she’s been working hard here at WVF for four seasons now. .
Every day Tina and Travis (Tina’s significant other) wake here on the farm and work outside with the animals and our livestock guardian dogs. .
Lots of work goes into this way of farming and to come here and see for yourself is an amazing experience. .
With all of the glitzy marketing of farm products out there, it can be so easy to be swayed in a direction that is different from what you thought you were buying. .
Know your farmer, do your research, and if you can’t visit the farm where your food comes from, call. Ask questions. Demand to know how your food is raised. You can usually tell if someone is passionate about what they’re doing by a phone conversation. .
A farmer friend @meadowdale_farm
sent us a screenshot of an Instagram post the other day. The post advertised local turkeys raised in Vermont and the photo representing the product was an absolutely gorgeous turkey with exceptional plumage shown on the greenest of grasses without another turkey in sight. So of course I got upset and knowing that the image was baloney, promptly googled both well-known Vermont turkey farms. .
The photos on both websites showed turkeys crammed together (but with much more space than a typical turkey farm) inside barns, no grass in sight. At least the website showed the reality but the store trying to sell these turkeys did every farmer WHO DOES raise their turkeys outside on grass a HUGE disservice.
Unfortunately this type of deceptive marketing is all around us all the time and we are frankly just too busy to care. Supporting regenerative farms is JUST as important as all of the other things we do to try to minimize our impact on the 🌍. So the next time you’re at the co-op or the grocery store, think about the how behind your food. How was it raised? By whom?

Sprout harvesting. All the left overs get fed to the pigs and chickens 🐓 .
Tomorrow nights dinner will include a mangalitsa loin roast, fresh roasted veggies from our fall harvest and fennel. .
Blessed to live a life that provides food for my family without a worry on what I’m eating!

Brunch: garlic & herb baby potatoes cooked in ghee with chipotle mayo for dipping, fried eggs cooked in a little @pedersonsfarms
bacon fat, and two slices of crispy bacon. I’m craving some green veggies AND I’m to a point where I might actually be getting tired of eggs 😱. I know, shocking. Planning on switching things up and trying out some smoothies and egg free breakfasts during this next round of 21DSD.
We’re at the farmer’s market today, but in case you can’t join us on this crisp fall morning, we are offering some fabulous specials in our online shop! Plus, use code FREECA for complimentary shipping anywhere in California! Happy cooking, friends. 🧡

Best cure for the Sunday scaries. A plate of yum. 😍 I found end of fall season (organic!) raspberries on sale at the store yesterday, so you better believe I worked them into my meal plan for the week. 🤤 happiest Sunday! 💕
Nothing beats fresh eggs from my backyard hens.
They are super fresh, super flavorful and super orange because of all the great greens they eat. My birds get to run around, take dirt baths, lay in the sun, and eat bugs just like chickens should. Their eggs are incomparable nutritionally speaking. They have more vitamin D, vitamin B, omega 3’s, selenium and iodine than even pasture raised eggs from the grocery store. I don’t eat meat very often these days since healthy animals are expensive so eggs are an essential part of my diet, providing an easily digestible complete protein every morning. Good eggs are such a powerful food that can be used in so many ways. Don’t believe the cholesterol myth - eggs are a great healing food and I can’t recommend them enough!
My chickens may be crazy but damn do I appreciate them!
If you haven’t ordered your turkey for Thanksgiving, get on it! It’ll be here before you know it. Go online to our farmstore for sizing info and pricing (link in profile) or come find us today at any of the farmers markets.

Donkey. The best goaty woatie there ever was. Okay, the best goaty woaty that doesn’t provide us anything at this time except for entertainment, company for our other goats and enjoyment. Donkey (pronounced Dunkey. In a Shrek voice) is a whether. So, although he’s a male, he’s not a smelly nasty buck! He’s been castrated.
I tried Trader Joe's USDA choice versus their more economical option to see what the difference is.
Picture 2 & 3: USDA choice on the right
Picture 4: USDA choice on top
The USDA choice was much softer and more flavorful. I was surprised at the big difference! Definitely worth the extra few dollars.
Sunday’s are meant to be lazy and focusing on some self care. Stress management is essential, not only for mental health but whole body health. When we are stressed our bodies are inflamed, and we hold onto weight. Our digestive system becomes dysfunctional and we don’t absorb the nutrients we need for good health. So make sure to get plenty of rest, some deep breathing and whole real nutrient dense foods. If your looking to heal your body, lose stress, manage allergies, and get support for an autoimmune condition I will be taking on new clients soon. #eggs #pastureraised #nutrientdense #nutritionaltherapy #sundaymorning #stressmanagement #selfcare #meditate
In case you’ve ever wondered what a bunch of extremely happy ducks sounds like... .
Since we are often asked, our birds are chowing down on a mixture of fermented wheat, corn, spent grain (from a brewery), and protein supplement. Plus whatever else they decide to eat while on pasture 🌾🌱🐜🦗🐛🦄 #petducks #poultryfarm #indianrunnerducks #pastureraised
