Another dog portrait headed to its new home today 🐶🎨💕 *i am fully booked for pet portraits until the new year*
My painting "Faces of War" can still be viewed at @lemieuxgalleries
in New Orleans until September 29th in the exhibit, "And Now for something New Volume. 1"
This piece was inspired by one of many photographs that my maternal grandmother took overseas, during her time serving as a nurse in World War II. This piece was originally a part of my BFA thesis exhibit, "Through the eyes of Lou" at The University of South Alabama in November 2017."
Lou Peveto (later-Scott) was a nurse in the 64th general hospital unit out of LSU in New Orleans, as well as her sister, Frances Peveto (both originally from Orange, Texas), so it means the world to me that my painting is in New Orleans, where her journey began.
Since I have been asked more times than I can remember, I have included the original photograph I took inspiration from.
Swipe left to view!
In the past, I never showed the orginal photographs, because I was not intending to paint photo realism like I believe everyone assumed at first.
My purpose in this series was to ultimately tell a story, but still express myself artistically, and letting my painting style shine through.
My biggest challenge in this series was incorporating color into the paintings- as all of the photos were in black and white or sepia- while still giving it a vintage appearance.
Also, using these photographs that were originally only a few inches in size for reference was tough.
