Always love staying on the barbell for my accessories. Rowing and OHP has always been a weak point of mine. Simple solution? Do it 3x a week and get better 🧐 . Pronated BB Rows 225 3x6 . Never neglect a movement because of lack of skill or healthy movement pattern. If something is difficult it is probably good for you!

Made the jump up to nine reps per set today, and felt great. Very pleased that I stayed at eight reps for so long, and only progressed once ready.
Overhead press with a pause has to be hands down the best supplemental lift I’ve included in my programming. It’s brutal and it gets the job done, great way to end a training week. This week hasn't really gone to plan at all, as my right hamstring was tight as all hell Wednesday and I've been kinda sick with a minor headcold that's kept me down. I missed Thursday AND Strongman Saturday, so even tho I wasn't feeling totally 100%, I couldnt let another day go by . . Today was for shoulders, so I started with strict press log off of blocks. Worked up to 2 big sets of 8 at 240 before tossing 250 on there just for shits. Got six of 250!!!! Shoulders are heating up more and more 💪🔥🌡 Then I tossed on some bands and did the whole dangly situation with 180 on the log. Used two 25lb plates and worked on sets of 5 of strict press. Felt really great. Finished up with some dips and triceps pressdowns to get my bodybuilder on. . . Hammy still feels a bit tight, but big shout out to @ladanya_fitmed for showing me that massage drill and giving me a free massage with it in the middle of Colosseum. Didn't think I was headed to the spa when I first left home but damn was that great. That was a cool lil set of #squats , #overheadpress , & #deadlift for my #stronglifts5x5 program, day 6. I would have to look at old notes to see when and if I've ever truly accomplished 55lb overhead press with #freeweights . I completed all 5 sets of 5 with success, especially with taking a 3 min break between the 4th and 5th set, along with a sip of my pineapple 🍍 vegan BCAAs from @cmsupplements , I made it! Today's 1x5 deadlift set was at 115. That was generally my starting weight before, with an upper limit plateau of prob 125 or 130. At this point I can see I was doing myself a disservice in the past with so many sets and reps along with such long breaks between performing basic #foundational #stengthtraining moves in a week. I'm grateful to have found a better program for me than #bodybuilding for the time being. I look forward to truly learning #weightlifting moves in the future, with my new strong foundation. P. S. Had a great weekend up in Aberdeen at the @massenomics Strongman Showdown at the Brown County Fair. 10, one on one events and one team event at the end. I competed in the circus dumbbell event. Last man standing with 150 lb. I pulled off the victory with 9-10 reps. @trevorsiemonsma and @larson_strong put on one of the most impressive yoke carries I’ve ever witnessed. Both worked up to 1100 lb with Alan narrowly pulling off the victory. The last event was a tug-o-war. Best of 3. The video is the first round and it lasted 50+ seconds and it was grueling. Decided to test out my overhead press, I've never lifted more than 35kg overhead. Today I built up to a 42.5kg press, and genuinely was so happy with that,especially as I haven't been lifting heavy/consistently for the last month 😅 I did attempt to go for 45kg after this but it wasn't happening. Assess your own tolerance as far as resistance band selection, elevate your legs and a portion of your upper torso Which will force your court to engage and begin doing tricep extensions. You should feel your midsection go into muscle failure around rep 10 if you can get to rep 25 you should be pretty proud of yourself. 4 sets with limited rest. The over head press... theres something so primitive and masculine about lifting a heavy weight above your head💪💪💪 . (this doesn't mean girls shouldn't do this, they definitely should) . Don't underestimate the movement, it's more than just a shoulder exercise if your doing it correctly, unfortunately this is one of those that I see so many people do so poorly... . Going by the principle that you can only exert force in a straight line oppose the Earth's gravitational pull, any movement that isn't directly up is wasted energy/ power... so an overhead press that when pressed from the top of the chest travels away from the mid foot it's just not efficient and also puts even more stress than what's needed on the front of the shoulders. . *Move your body around the bar, not the bar around your body* . To do this effectively, there has to be a slight bend from the hips which allows the bar to be pressed directly upwards. Whilst doing this, you need to be doing 3 main things... ▪Squeeze your glutes ▪Squeeze your quads ▪Brace your abs. . It's worth noting I'm still perfecting this and by no means claim to be pressing perfectly, but all I can do is practice and any advice/tips are more than welcome
