You may literally be half way across the world right now (jammy sod), but it doesn’t mean that I can’t tell the world how truly amazing you are.
The day I told you that I suffered from an eating disorder and when you came to learn of my past not once did you feel the need to run away, (hold on.. is this why you’ve gone travelling now? 😂). You quite literally stayed and held my hand whilst telling me all of the things I could never bring to tell myself. “You are beautiful just the way you are, so go and put your pyjamas on and don’t worry about wearing make-up” “Just cry, Hol, because I’m here to cwtch you.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“No, Holly, your thighs haven’t grown in the space of 3 seconds. Scientists wouldn’t approve of your theory.”
“If you don’t fancy cooking a meal tonight because you feel anxious, I understand, Hol.”
To be so understanding, so loving and so reassuring makes me feel like I have struck platinum (Gold isn’t good enough), and you will never understand how thankful I am to you for just being there. It’s been bumpy & testing, but who wants a smoothie when you can have a crunchie (don’t know where I was going with that). To all the boyfriends, girlfriends, wives & husbands of those whose partners suffer from ill mental health, you really are our heroes. I wish I had known you when I was 5 years old, so then I could go into school and tell the classroom: “My hero is, Daniel Brooks.” #superman #ourheroes #mentalhealth
