Isn’t it cool how in today’s age we’re able to recognize places by a picture?
If 10 years ago you showed this photo around and asked where it was, I bet less than half the people would be able to say so correctly, but now? Show someone a blue door on a white-washed building and their mind automatically goes to Greece for an answer.
We hear stories all the time about how social media has ruined the world, leading to over tourism and such (which I saw first hand in Thailand with the closure of Maya Bay and the trash on the beaches) but on the other end of that spectrum, I totally think the internet and social media have actually brought a lot of good to this world:
Underprivileged countries are now able to flourish thanks to millions of people flocking to their beautiful sights each year, bringing in money to their economy and the locals.
Social media has allowed us to be more knowledgeable of the world’s geography as we add places we still want to see every day to our bucket lists. And how about bringing awareness to causes that affect our earth? Like recycling and veganism. Those things didn’t originate from the internet but I would say that it’s more prominent today than it was when I was a kid. And why? Social media.
The internet has shown us how there’s this great big world out there that’s just asking to be explored and how we need to treat it kindly to sustain it for generations to come.
How do you think the internet and social media has impacted tourism? Do you think it’s helped or hurt our world?
1. Entrance to underground crossing, across Dr. Jose Rizal park.
2. A man sleeping outside his house (the tents) in an underdeveloped area of Manila.
3. People walking around Divisoria market, one of the busiest shopping district in old part of Manila.
Fun facts : the Maasai live off an animal based diet only, consisting of meat (cow, goat, sheep), dairy and blood. Their men are polygamous, and the tribes are often nomadic, migrating throughout north-eastern Tanzania and southern Kenya.
We did it! Drove 4.417 kilometers in 18 days, from the top end of Australia to the very west. Darwin to Perth, outback to beautiful coastline. I would’ve never thought we would make it here in one piece, but we did! Only looked death in the eyes like once or twice, wore minimal clothes and saw maximal flies.
Encountered some amazing things along the way, like this pink lake which just turned out to be pink salt shards that cut my feet and legs open 🙃
We’re set for our biggest challenge yet, trying to sell our beloved 4x4 that has brought us everywhere. If anyone’s looking for a car in Perth hmu 🚙.
All things sweet in Singapore:
Red bean ice cream sandwich by the river, Hokkaido baked cheese tart that was ooey gooey to perfection, almond chocolate cake that IKEA has perfected as much as it's room layouts
Sorry we are closed today❄
