NOT ALL CARBS ARE CREATED EQUAL . Let’s talks about carbs dude. . Yea those thing your friend Tracy said will make you fat...yea stop listening to Tracy. . Carbs are the body’s preferred source of energy! . They just get a bad wrap because we typically over consume them in large quantities. . But though this apple is primarily made up of carbs, it will have a different effect on the body than say a bowl of rice. So what’s the difference? . SIMPLE CARBS - or high sugar carbs. These typically cause insulin to spike quickly which causes nutrients to be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and shuttled to the desired locations. The main purpose of simple carbs is to give the body quick energy - say when you are running long distance or playing a sport. . However, most of the time these foods are eaten because they are sweet and delicious. This includes many foods like candy, pastries, sugary drinks. This also includes some dairy and fruit, but overall, it’s best to keep these to a minimum unless needing a quick bolt of energy or to obviously sneak in higher nutrient packed fruit or dairy foods. . COMPLEX CARBS - or starchy carbs are the opposite of simple carbs. They are lower in sugar and are digested slower into the blood stream. They are the preferred source of carbs by your body because they give you long lasting energy. However, they are typically consumed less often than simple carbs because, let’s face it, I think we’d all rather eat candy than a bowl of rice 😅. Speaking of rice, other sources include pasta, whole grain bread, and veggies. . When it comes down to it though dude...CARBS ARE CONFUSING. Just understand, it really makes little difference where your carbs come from at the end of the day if your trying to improve your physique as long as calorie and macronutrient goals are met. But what will suffer is your overall health obviously if you eat nutrient poor simple carbs like candy over higher nutrient carbs. Also, because most simple carbs are so nutrient poor, low in fiber and digested more quickly, your ability to prevent fat gain will likely be lower vs choosing more complex or fibrous carbs. . TAG a friend who needs to eat more healthy carbs!

You can gain more from having the best range of motion before a workout instead of after. The secret is, the increased range of motion helps make the workout more effective and reduce the risk of injury. Deadlift tip: In my experience, when performing deadlifts, placing one hand in an underhand position and the other hand in an overhand position allows me to have a better grip of the barbell, which makes it easier to perform the deadlift. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.

It’s Trainer Tip Tuesday! ✏️ Stretching... Do you do it? Or, do you hop right into your workout? Stretching helps our muscles and joints prepare for the rigorous training we put our bodies through during exercise. Without stretching before a workout, we are at a greater risk for injury. • • • • Imagine taking a cold, unused rubber band and stretching it to its max. More than likely, it will snap. Now, imagine taking that same rubber band and stretching it, warming it, and trying to extend it again. That snap is less likely. The same is true of your muscles. • • • • Spend several minutes doing a dynamic warmup (similar to the exercises you will be performing - get the whole body ACTIVE) before your workout and I know you will not only feel a difference but you will be practicing safe and effective habits!

ARE YOU WEIGHING YOURSELF WRONG? By @carltonmcintosh - I know many of you weigh yourself sporadically each week or month. If you do this then please stop. - Weighing yourself more often gives you your average (near enough correct) weight. You see, your weight will fluctuate on a day to day basis. Reasons for this include: • Water intake • Needing to go toilet • Volume of food • Carb intake • Calorie intake • Menstrual cycle • Salt intake •Etc. - If you weigh yourself Monday morning at 10am then weigh yourself the week after on a Tuesday night you will get completely different scale readings. This can mess with your head a little (this is why I don’t like slimming worlds weigh ins). - 1. Weighing yourself at the same time each time makes your measurements more accurate - 2. Wearing the same thing when you weigh in will give you a more accurate and consistent reading. If you go naked one time then wear pants the next time then this is not going to work. - 3. Going to the toilet before you weigh in will again give you more of an accurate reading if you’re weight that day - 4. Weighing yourself more than once per week will give you your average weight. If you want to know your average weight you will add your weight measurement up and divide the number by the amount of days you weighed in at. - 5. Don’t stress. 💥THE BEST FOODS FOR FAT LOSS 💪🏼💥 . With the introduction of flexible dieting it can seem like the best option is to fit as many delicious “empty calorie” foods into our diet plan as possible 🍪 🍫 🍬 . After all they taste great and a diet you enjoy is one you can stick to, right? . Not necessarily . The reality is, trying to fit too many junk foods into your diet is nothing more than a one way ticket to endless CRAVINGS and HUNGER 🤤 . What we really want to do is fill our diet with MOSTLY foods which are: . 1️⃣ High volume foods . You can eat a lot of them for very little calories . 2️⃣Foods high in fibre . They slow down digestion keeping you fuller longer . 3️⃣ Foods which are high in protein . Protein is the most filling of the macronutrients . What really makes a diet enjoyable is one which keeps you as full as possible while allowing for a little flexibility . Eat foods which curb hunger and keep you satisfied and try to stay busy focusing on other things, work, hobbies etc. . You can definitely still enjoy some ice cream 🍦 , pick n mix 🍬 , pizza 🍕, a couple of drinks 🥃 . Just make sure it’s not taking up the bulk of your calories, it will only make your diet harder to stick to . Include a lot of the foods above and you’ll make developing a lean, strong and healthy body that more far EASIER and more ENJOYABLE

I know the gym can be a confusing place, I realise sometimes desperation takes over, but please, could everyone stop copying and/or taking advice from Facebook, Instagram and YouTube! The amount of shit that gets posted on there is unreal! Things I’ve seen that I just know have come from the internet: -Walking sideways up Stairmaster -Walking backwards up Stairmaster -Hip Extensions whilst walking up Stairmaster -Sideways Leg Press -Single Leg Press on the Assisted Chin Machine -Upside down Leg Press on the Smith Machine The list could go on. I’m going to give you the heads up - all of the above, ridiculous activities, will do you no good at all and have safer or more effective alternatives. Walking sideways or backwards up the stairmaster? I’m curious as to what the goal is here? Unless you’re planning to compete in the backwards stair walking world championships then I’m going to say it’s pointless! This is becoming one of my favorite biceps exercises. Alternate three kinds of curls: First Curl: Slightly inwards (as if you’re bringing the dumbbells together) Second Curl: Regular Curl Third Curl: Going outwards, arms forming a V from your body Do about 6-8 reps of each curl then drop to a lower weight, and do reps until failure. You can also see me doing hammer curls here but doing regular grip curls are good too!
