People often comment on how I seemingly have a million gym memberships, and honestly it is the only way I can keep my sanity doing the same thing day-in and day-out. The bodybuilding lifestyle is extremely monotonous, and can get old very quickly if you aren’t careful. For the most part, we as bodybuilders do the same movements, eat the same meals, and generally have the same routine every single week. When you’ve been doing it as long as I have, changing the scenery is almost a necessity to keep yourself from going crazy 🤷🏼‍♂️

A lot can happen in 2 years. . In 2016 I was doing a lot of yo-yo diets and meal prepping during the week but heavily drinking and eating whatever on the weekends. I was going to the gym but I didn’t know what I was doing. At the end of 2016 I decided that enough was enough. . Slowly I started going out less, drinking more water and less alcohol, and making better food choices. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I didn’t feel good about myself or in my body and I just wanted a change. . The curious person in me needed to research and find out for myself about how this diet and exercise thing works so began my fascination of the science behind exercise and the human diet. I learned that abs were made in the kitchen, squats and body weight exercises weren’t the way to get a butt and that eating more would give me a better body, hormone balance, and the energy I desired. . So in 2017 I decided tracking my intake and implementing macros. As of today, I’ve logged onto MyFitnessPal for almost 500 days in a row. I’ve built my body the way I wanted. It took me over a year of weight training to step on a bodybuilding stage and I still have a lot of growing to do. . So here we are in 2018, I’m a personal trainer who is studying nutrition and holistic wellness, helping others look and feel as good as they were designed to while on my own journey to becoming the best athlete and coach I can be. . Change is uncomfortable and it downright sucks sometimes fam. There are so many things that influence our ability to be successful but it’s important to remember that we can’t put the oxygen mask on our kids, family, friends or neighbor, if we don’t first put our oxygen mask on. Here’s to selfishly becoming our best selves so that we may be more selfless.

Are you always comparing yourself to others? I had a conversation with a coaching client recently and we talked about comparing yourself to others on social media.📱 - She was struggling with seeing so many women on Instagram losing 20-30 lbs in X amount of time. The crazy thing is that this client literally has NO weight to lose. We are focusing on building muscle, and creating a healthy sustainable lifestyle for her.🍎 - That’s the thing though. No matter where you are in your journey, you have probably compared yourself to someone else’s picture. Right⁉️ - Remember this: you have absolutely NO idea what that person is doing behind the scenes. She could be eating next to no calories. She could be killing herself in the gym 2x a day 7 days a week, which will eventually fade. She could honestly just have a kick ass metabolism and her body reacted really well. She also could have had 50 + lbs to lose, when you don’t!🤷‍♀️ - The point is, you have no idea. Focus on doing this for you. I never struggled with my body image until I hit junior high. I had an athletic build and I carried a good amount of muscle for a 13 year old girl.. I was "thicker" than the other skinny girls, but I didn't care because my muscle and strength is what carried me in sports. . However, we had a few bullies in our grade, and as you probably know, bullies love picking on the people who stand out - like me. I got picked on constantly, and eventually, I started to believe what the bullies told me. . They told me I wasn't enough. They told me that standing out and being ME was wrong.. and I caved. . I started to change who I was. I started to focus on getting "skinny." I shut out the fact that I was a strong, muscular athlete, and all I wanted was to fit in like the other girls. And I got there, eventually. . By the time I was 16, I was rail thin as you see. I was the skinniest girl in the class. And again, I got picked on. . I was told I was too thin.. "go eat a cheeseburger".. people stared at me while I ate lunch. Just like in junior high, I stood out. My peers told me that I wasn't enough as I was, and the weight just kept coming off. Depression took over, and I ran away as fast as I can. . I graduated high school an entire semester early and didn't even want to walk with my fellow classmates. I stopped talking to everyone because I feared judgment and I was very insecure about myself. And honestly, it has taken me years.. almost ten at this point.. to believe that I am enough, no matter WHAT the scale says. Whether I am thin, thick, or somewhere in between, it is hard to not place my worth in my image. . But every day I get one step closer to freedom. Every day I care less and less about the scale. Every day I focus on the GOOD things about myself and my body, and LESS about where I fall short. . Today I am choosing to love myself. As I am, for who I am. And to every single one of the haters out there, I refuse to let you drag me down. I’m embracing my muscular build, and for once, I’m proud of it 💪🏼

❗️FITNESS: MORE THAN JUST THE PHYSICAL❗️ ⁣ ⁣ You see the word “fitness” and automatically think of the physical results. But have you ever thought that fitness could help you out mentally as well? 🤔⁣ ⁣ Ever since my early 20’s I’ve struggled with anxiety. It manifested around my first year of university as a result of being under so much stress >> the ultimate trigger for my anxiety 🌪⁣ ⁣ I will never forget my first panic attack, sitting at the back of a city bus on my way home from class...⁣ ⁣ My legs suddenly went numb, I didn’t know what was happening. My heart was pounding, I felt light headed, my stomach was churning in complete discomfort. I honestly thought that I was dying...⁣ ⁣ For a couple of years I really struggled with my anxiety. School was unbelievably stressful and then I had a really bad breakup on top of that 👎🏻⁣ ⁣ I knew that I needed to make a change and that’s when I found weightlifting! ⁣ ⁣ When I pick up those weights, it’s like all my mental stress gets transferred to my body - where I can break it down rep by rep, set by set. I’m able to focus on myself and let go of the mental burdens ♥️ ⁣ ⁣ If you’re someone who is struggling with anxiety and have yet to find an outlet that helps, I HIGHLY encourage you to try lifting weights!⁣ ⁣ ⭐️It allows you to free your mind from the constant worry so you can focus on YOURSELF!⁣ ⭐️Your body will release endorphins that just make you feel GOOD!⁣ ⁣ Fitness is so much more than a physical journey and can help tremendously with transforming your mental health!⁣ ⁣ How has anxiety impacted your life? PLEEEEASE STILL FIT and don’t be TOO TIGHT and SNUG…GRRRRR! 😤Hated that feeling! . 3 years ago I was miserable in my jeans! Practice makes perfect 👌🏽 I still can’t hold this for longer than a second and it’s not ever going to be perfect but that’s not the point anyway... yoga helps calm my anxious mind whenever I need it... all I have to do is pull out my mat and start breathing, letting my practice take me where it wants to take me and at the end, I work on some hand balances. 🧘🏽‍♀️🤸🏽‍♀️💫 Yoga takes me out of my self... where ego can take over and talk me into a corner. Creating busy, confused, obsessive thoughts that were once relieved with a bottle of wine. You can remove the alcohol or the drug but until you start working the inner shit from childhood trauma and past hurts... nothing will change... you will look back at the bottle or something equally self sabatoging to help. Unfortunately for me this only makes it worse... bringing me only darkness. 😢 Yoga is helping me not only stay sober but heal from things that need healing from my childhood all the way to adulthood... things I have held on to for far too long. Early detecting of weakness as well as a consistent strength routine to engage these, more often that not, FORGOTTEN 11 will keep you further away from needing a trip to the physio. Next time you're in the gym running through one of your sessions check to see that you're actually activating the desired muscle groups and are able to move whilst maintaining the connection.
