I would like to introduce you to my new friends; Justin and his dad. We met at yesterday’s painting day for #artwithaheartokc
Admittedly, I was a very nervous first time volunteer. What a nice family, even if my favorite hockey team is better. (Sorry Justin, I used to live in Hockeytown.) And, as you can see, Justin’s dad also sports a cool haircut.
However, the real reason why this family is so awesome is that a little boy was also there who only spoke French. It just so happens Justin’s mom also speaks French. Instead of playing with her son and husband, she translated for a child far away from home. Now that ought to put a smile on your face. Giving within a moment of giving. A jaw dropping double portion. I stood in the presence of greatness.
Meanwhile, we did two pieces, an abstract and a “view from the 10th floor”. Justin did everything. He chose the colors, mixed, painted and suffered through my bad puns. I was merely there to get paint on both of them.
Our table, of course, was the loud one. We were laughing, quoting Austin Powers movies (ok, his dad and I did the quoting while Justin groaned) and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan because you cannot paint without good music.
In case you were wondering, I’ve already signed up to volunteer again on Jan 13, 2019 for the second group of kids. Wahoo
Ps... Justin’s paintings and more will be for sale at the February charity event. Check it out: https://www.artwithaheartokc.com
