I'd like to share something really special that happened to me when I traveled to Oakland to see Primus, Claypool Lennon Delirium and Duo de Twang on NYE 2016.
I was re-reading the Electric Grapevine book the day after the concert and a piece of information in the Sausage chapter suddenly stood out: The Riddles Are Abound Tonight video had been shot at the Masonic Rite Temple in Lake Merritt. Within walking distance from where I was staying! The following day I ventured there and walked in. I was taken to the main office where I told them I wanted to take some pictures of the place where Les Claypool had done a music video back in 1994. They asked me what the place looked like and I described it. One of the employees said "that's the auditorium, follow me" and the others asked me for the name of the video and wrote it down. They were very surprised.
The employee walked me to the elevator and entered his key. Once the doors opened I was completely awe-struck. I stood in the middle and gazed at the incredibly tall ceiling, then turned to look at the pillar structures. The crew guys were sitting there and asked me what I was looking at. I told them I was taking pictures of the place because Les Claypool had done a music video there. They said "cool, would you like to check it out with the lights on?" I said "sure!" They put the light effects on and it looked twice as beautiful. As I stood there looking at the then-lit pillars I felt tears coming to my eyes. Needless to say every time I watch the video, I instantly remember that moment, which remains indescribable even now. I thanked everyone and left the temple.
Since then, I can say I have set foot on a place where Les Claypool, my favorite musician of all time made a music video, one of my favorites of his, on top of that.

After telling someone I was from Oakland, earlier today, they asked me if I liked “The Dubs.” Naturally I thought oh cool, “The Dubs” is an awesome nickname for Dublin. I love Dublin. Then he was like “Are you a Warriors fan?” And I was like oh... Now, I refer to Dublin as “The Dubs.” Go sports!!!
