Guess whose back to feeling goooood! After a much needed weekend of nothing but self care and down time to ground myself I’m feeling amazing 🙏🏽 I’ve even been able to get into a better state of flow with my creativity and physicality! I slept, meditated, swam in the ocean, hula hooped and danced 💃🏼 I will always encourage others to put themselves first no matter the situation. To acknowledge their struggle and just give it the time and love it needs. We can’t show up at our best unless we do and when we’re feeling like crap it can ripple out into our environment at no ones benefit. So here’s a shakas to send out those good vibes! “Hiiii, I’m Tatjana and I have been an RN for a little over 3 years. My first 2 years I worked on ICU step-down/Burn unit in Honolulu and now I work on a tele unit in SF. •
I chose nursing initially because my mom said nurses make good money. Long story short my first choice was to be an archeologist but my mom said ‘Areachologists don’t make any money.’ In high school I enjoyed biology and helping others so I asked ‘Mom, how about a nurse?’ and she happily agreed. Luckily once I started nursing school I knew I was entering a career that aligned with my soul so ultimately I felt I made the right choice for myself. •
After a tough shift, I always try to do some type of exercise, which is a huge source of relief for tension I hold in my body and my mind after a tough shift. I also spend time alone reflecting. Whether I take a longer than usual shower or linger at the dinner table after I’ve finished eating to be in silence and think about my day. I need to replay the events of the day in my head, brainstorm how I might have done things differently, then reaffirm that I did my best at that moment and I am a good nurse. •
On my days off I nurture myself by doing things I love. Which include going to dance classes (hiphop, salsa, dancehall, samba, whatever mood my body is feeling like moving too), eating good food (whether cooking myself or going out to eat all types of cuisines), traveling (locally and globally), and spending time with my loved ones. I always remind myself and others ‘You can’t take care of others if you don’t care for yourself.’ “

Massage is well known for relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief and other health benefits. Postnatal massage can be as important and beneficial as massage pre-pregnancy and during pregnancy. Postnatal bodywork is an effective and holistic approach for the many adjustments to motherhood. Unique postpartum benefits include hormone regulation, better sleep, improved breastfeeding, and reduced swelling.
Body fluids need to find balance post-pregnancy, during which the mother’s body experiences a 50% increase in fluid volume. Massage increases circulation and lymphatic drainage to facilitate elimination of excess fluids and waste products while the tissue stimulation assists the body shift water to the right places.
Swelling is also affected by hormones, which go through MAJOR changes after delivery. A postnatal massage greatly improves postpartum hormone regulation, which decreases swelling as well as the stress hormone, cortisol.

Oftentimes, we are very understanding of others. Whether they are overwhelmed, under-appreciated, or just deserve a break. It's kind to excuse them of a task that isn't really urgent, point out what they have contributed and show them gratitude, or encourage them to enjoy some self-time. But somehow, these are not easy things to offer up to oneself.
If you offer these kindnesses to yourself, you'll find that you feel lighter. A large part of stress stems from the pressure you place on yourself. Turn down the volume of your inner voice that is focused on your short-comings and broadcast the one that acknowledges your accomplishments. Can we really direct our attention to the fact that the noise in our minds brings dis-ease to our bodies. That our continual stress forces our bodies to respond and feed a cascade of hormonal dysfunction. That the absence of mindfulness results in the medulla of our brain responding emotionally to our circumstances rather than the logical frontal lobe playing a primary role in response.
Health starts by being consciously aware of the state of our mind and the power it has over all of our body systems.
