Some campsites live up to their daydreams! 📸: @wilderness_john The main appeal of camping in the wild is to go back to the basics. Sleeping on the ground beneath the stars grounds us and adds uncovers the simplicity in our lives. But whether you’re in the mountains or the desert, some campsites have just the right amount of beauty and familiarity. Sweeping landscapes and a cozy site to set up your tent. And no matter how many weekends are spent camping, a handful of special sites like this are what always linger when we think of wilderness camping. What special campsites have you come across on your adventures? #seekmorewilderness
It’s about lighthouse time.
Amazing weekend trip with @nalintjaja to colorful Colorado! It was pretty shocking to step outside of the plane to be greeted by a small snow flurry but made me very excited to start skiing again! Here was a short hike through the Rocky Mountain National Park at Bear Lake!!

July 28 & 29, 1834 “28th-Through this valley ran a small stream in a northerly direction, which all agreed in believing to be a branch of the Yellowstone. 29th-We descended the stream about fifteen miles through the dense forest and at length came to a beautiful valley about eight miles long and three or four wide, surrounded by dark and lofty mountains. The stream, after running through the center in a northwesterly direction, rushed down a tremendous canyon of basaltic rock apparently just wide enough to admit its waters. The banks of the stream in the valley were low and skirted in many places with beautiful cottonwood groves. Here we found a few Snake Indians comprising six men, seven women and eight or ten children, who were the only inhabitants of the lonely and secluded spot.” -Osborn Russel, Journal of a Trapper, 1921
Happy 101st birthday, @NationalParkService ! For the last century, the #NationalPark Service has protected America’s Best Idea, ensuring current and future generations can experience the country’s natural, cultural and historic treasures. Established 44 years before the National Park Service, @yellowstonenps was the world’s first national park and sparked a worldwide movement. Go where the air is thin and the views are covered in fall’s colors. Colorado’s got some of the best areas to adventure - have any favorites in the state? Share ‘em below! #seekmorewilderness _____ Crested Butte will always be one of my favorite places to explore. Perfect mountain town, beautiful areas to hike and bike, and plenty of desert further down the valley. After spending a few summers hiking and working in these mountains, they’ll always be special place. _____
I'm having one of those weeks (months?) where I feel like I just can't seem to keep up with everything. Once I get behind on one thing, everything else just starts to pile up. •⠀ I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, one small step at a time. I stayed up until 2 am last night working so I could get a new blog post up. And I actually woke up early (for me) this morning to get a head start on the day. • I'm already feeling less stressed knowing that I don't have to pull another late night...at least not to work. But I probably will stay up late, because I'm a total night owl no matter how hard I try to change my habits. 📸 Photo taken at Great Smoky Mountains National Park

50 years ago Lyndon B. Johnson signed Redwood National Park into law literally saving these magnificent trees from the chainsaw. In his remarks on this day in 1968, he said, "For once we have spared what is enduring and ennobling from the hungry and hasty and selfish act of destruction. The redwoods will stand because the men and women of vision and courage made their stand--refusing to suffer any further exploitation of our national wealth, any greater damage to our environment, or any larger debasement of that quality and beauty without which life itself is quite barren.Yes, the redwoods will stand." And stand they do. Across downtown from us, a new @lowellnps exhibit focusing on the park’s 40th anniversary called “Making Connections” just went up @thebrushgallery . You can spot some of the logos we cover and see them in a bit more context. You can also purchase 40th merchandise by going to http://brandinglowell.com/lnhp40th — as with out merch, all purchases benefit Lowell High’s graphic design classes! We hope you’ll go check it out! #lowell #nps101 #findyourpark
Although it's not the most comfortable, it is possible to cram a 6'3" adult into the backseat of a Toyota Corolla. For these sights and to be alone in this gigantic park, it was worth the sore neck.
A colder season is closing in.
Same mountain. Directly opposite viewpoint. 2 blisters. New hiking shoes must be located.
Sweden is fantastic could be a slogan?
The Ancestral Pueblo people started living in these cliff dwellings in AD 550. How old is the USA? 241 years. How old was the Roman Empire? 500 years. The Puebloans lived here for 800 years! Until they didn't. For some reason they abandoned the area in the late 1200s. Our Ranger said it could have been drought that drove them away, but no one really knows. @mesaverdenps @mesaverdenationalpark @visitmesaverde #mesaverde #mesaverdenationalpark #mesaverdenp #mesaverdenps #parkranger #parkrangers #nationalparkranger #nationalparks #nationalpark #nationalparkgeek #nativeamerican #nationalparkservice #colorado #getoutdoors #cliffdwellings #findyourpark #nps101 #park101 #parks101 #nps100 #nps #goparks #usinterior #whatsoutsideourdoor #fulltimervlife #rvlife #sonya6000club #ayearwithmycamera #discoverearth #travelblogger
National Park Rangers are our heroes. They are stewards of our earth, heritage, and natural beauty. Their knowledge of history, geology, archeology and ecology surpasses anything you could learn in a classroom. Our passionate Mesa Verde National Park Ranger's Cliff Palace tour was so vivid, one wouldn't be surprised see an Ancestral Pueblo family cooking and eating in one of the dwellings. @mesaverdenps   @mesaverdenationalpark @visitmesaverde  #mesaverde   #mesaverdenationalpark #mesaverdenp  #mesaverdenps   #parkranger #parkrangers   #nationalparkranger #nationalparks   #nationalpark #nationalparkgeek   #nativeamerican #nationalparkservice #colorado  #getoutdoors  #cliffdwellings #findyourpark  #nps101  #park101   #parks101 #nps100 #nps #goparks #usinterior #whatsoutsideourdoor #fulltimervlife #rvlife #sonya6000club #ayearwithmycamera #discoverearth #travelblogger

Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert 🙌🏻🏜. Link up top ⤴️. . . We’ve just published our post on this National Park from our visit back in March, and lemme tell ya, it’s perfect for road-trippers. It’s just off of I-40 and old Route 66 so it’s an easy stop for families traveling west from Albuquerque or east from other points in AZ. This is a beautiful park that can be explored in a day with kids and has lots of pull-offs, hiking trails, fossils, petroglyphs, and of course, Petrified logs and trees. It’s a cool step back in time that you’ll want to put on your list.
