This morning after my work out, I checked my Fitbit just to see how many calories I burned because I was pretty sweaty and I felt great! Of course, when I saw my numbers; I was a little shocked...it said I had “only” burned 139 calories 🙄 I took a moment to remind myself to focus on the feeling ❤️ Not the numbers ... And that goes for everything in life... Not the... I get obsessive about 'progress' and numbers. I'm so quick to quit if I don't see numbers dropping, even if I KNOW that isn't how you measure strength or health. After crying to my husband everytime the scale didn't move how I wanted, he recommended to forget the scale. So I told myself I'll keep working hard, and I won't get on a scale for at least 6 months (if ever). Let me be real though, my biggest test of self control EVER is walking past this scale everyday and not getting on it. The true goal of fitness for me is to have a healthy heart and a healthy body. My LO got baptized a few weeks ago. I lost 8 lbs. I still feel awful. I have numerous doctor appointments to figure out why. We all have our thing, some of us have a healthy way of coping and some of us use drugs or alcohol, and then there’s some of us who use food to distract us from the feelings we don’t want to feel. After competing for the first time and following an extremely restrictive diet, I put my body and mind through hell. What happened after? I wanted to eat everything, then wouldn’t eat anything. Repeat that cycle over and over again and you have a girl fighting herself and her mind, feeling out of control in every area of her life. I knew I had a problem, it showed in my social life, relationships; I hated looking in the mirror and I hated who I’d become. Some days I’d wake up happy with the way I looked and would step on the scale waiting to see a number I liked starting back at me. If I didn’t like that number, I didn’t like myself. Immediately the image I just had of myself changed. I would go into a tailspin. I finally decided enough was enough, I needed to break the cycle that didn’t serve me, my life, or anyone in it. I put myself to work on myself. I planned it, I scheduled it and repeated it while holding myself accountable to bettering myself and bettering my life to be better for me and the people living it with me. Sometimes life can trigger patterns in your brain that need to be broken and replaced and it IS possible. I’ve been binge free for almost 5 years, I’ve competed twice since and have not had any struggle with food or body image. I know there’s a lean time and I know there’s a not as lean time, and A. My body is going to be where it wants to be while fueled properly and B. Your self worth is not dependant on how you look. Mindset is key. It took a lot of work getting myself healthy again and if I can help to prevent anyone from going though the experience I did I know that my experience was put there for a purpose. It took me down the road of learning nutrition and behaviour to give myself and body what it needed. Our bodies are our temples, we need to love, nourish and treat them with respect & care. A No-Weigh Month? . Yesterday, I ate two whole bags of popcorn consecutively and the salt burned my mouth. This morning, I was okay with it because I was maintaining my weight. I'm getting overly complacent with eating like crap, eating in ways that hurt me, as long as I stay at a deficit, as long as I maintain. . But that's messed up! I'm trying to be holistic. The whole reason I lost weight is because I started listening to my body and eating plants. I've been caught up in the numbers. Thinking that as long as I maintain the 48 pounds I've lost this year that I'm fine. But my sleep has gotten worse. My resting heart rate has gone up. I'm not eating as healthfully anymore. . I think I'm not going to weigh myself for a month or two. That's going to be really hard because I've been weighing myself multiple times a day. I'm going to focus on flexibility and getting my heart rate down and really figuring out how to cook for one. . I've been super disillusioned with this journey. My "goal weight" is like 25 pounds away. But what does that even mean? I like how I feel! I like how I look! Being "overweight" doesn't mean unhealthy or unhappy. My health is better than it was. I think it might be better for me, overall, to not focus on weight anymore. @jordanshrinks wrote a post about focusing on strength instead of trying to maintain deficits. I'm feeling inspired to do the same. . I planned and even reached out to my coach for some last minute pre-packaged “lean and green” meals but the hotel apparently only makes chef made meals, no microwaves in sight (sounds like a first world problem😂) I’ve been so successful on this program, I panicked a little when I couldn’t make the microwaved meals. I took a step back, deep breaths and realized this program is about smart choices. So I eyeballed the chicken between 6-7 oz and knew that my greens were gonna be a lot. I WENT OVER MY MACROS! WHAT DO I DO?! 😱 … When I started getting in the swing of things with this whole flexible dieting shin-dig, I became super determined to really give 110%, and because I’m kind of a perfectionist in everything I do, it became a daily goal of mine to be PERFECT at eating exactly as much as I needed to. No more, no less. … I quickly got sucked into some pretty strong and old patterns of getting down and berating myself when I was anything less than perfect with my diet. Yes I could indulge, but I had to plan it all out PERFECTLY. Not a gram too much or a gram too little! Just because you ate a smidge too much or too little that day, is no reason to beat yourself up! … And yah, it was bonkers. And I would stress out about it WAYY too much! ... So once my coach snapped me out of it (THANK GAWD), I was able to be much easier on myself and realize that the whole reason I started with this whole flexible dieting thing was for a maintainable long term solution to my health and fitness goals. And being 110% PERFECT ALL THE TIME IS NOT MAINTAINABLE OR MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY! ... So if I went over my macros, big whoop! Tomorrow is a new day! And I won’t under eat to make up for it. NO WAY. For all I know, my body actually NEEDED that extra boost of foods that day. … And if I don’t hit my macros, AGAIN! BIG WHOOP! I just keep swimming and try to hit them the next day. … No more sweating the small stuffs. And really, it is small stuffs in the grand scheme of LIFE.
