Hi everyone! My name is Rachel, and I’m a photographer based in the U.S. currently in southwest Virginia. I’ve been given the awesome opportunity to take over Universe Today’s instagram account for the day. You can see more of my work at @racheldebuskcreative.
For as long as I can remember I’ve loved to take photos of anything and everything. But to me, one of the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding things to photograph is the night sky. This first photo I’m sharing is a capture from late this summer at Peaks of Otter in Bedford, VA. This quiet little lodge is tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains and has the perfect view of Sharp Top Mountain. I was lucky enough to take a trip out there with perfect conditions to see the milky way just as it rose over the mountain. The lodge that was fairly close to the lake provided some nice illumination for the foreground, along with the little bit of moon we had that night. I'd been imagining getting this shot for quite some time, so because of that I think it will always hold a special place in my heart.
