"I'm losing track but I think it's 24 at this point.
My grandma is a very inspiring person and always has been to me. When I was 5 we would always do this 1-mile fun run and she also did longer distances. So when I got to college, she was a marathoner and I thought, 'How cool would that be if I trained in secret and then showed up and ran a marathon.' With marathons you can't really not train and it would be pretty surprising since she saw me regularly and never saw me training. So I show up at the starting line at the day of the race and she was in complete shock and started crying she was so happy.
I actually ran like 32 miles because basically I ran to the end and then came back because I didn't want to finish without her so my first marathon was like 32 miles. So we did a lot of marathons together and with my dad it was a pretty cool tradition.
We started in North Carolina then branched out—there's a club called the 50 state marathon club, and I'm trying to do one in every state in my lifetime, so we went to Hawaii, we went to Alaska, we went to Pennsylvania—I did the Boston Marathon, I did the New York Marathon, I did one in Louisiana. Lately I discovered there's something call the Abbott World Marathon Majors which are like the biggest marathons in the world, there's 6 of them. New York, Boston, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo—I've done all but London now. So I'm signed up for that 2019 lottery.
The cool thing about the marathons too is I was actually running with a friend and I had just run the Berlin Marathon an hour faster than what I was currently running. I was feeling really bad so I took a test the next day and it turns out I was pregnant. I was immediately worried since I had 3 more coming up with my husband, so I asked my OBGYN and she asked about my marathon history and was like 'Oh, you're fine. As long as you feel good, there's no problem whatsoever.' So it can't be bad if she's delivered thousands of babies and she thought I was fine.
Someday when he gets older I'll be able to tell him he ran 3 marathons in utero, and it's hilarious because he'll probably never run any on his own." 👟: @forever21
