From today’s hike in search of petroglyphs at Gold Butte.
Pictured here is the panel at Rabbit Ears.🐰 It was funny because I wouldn’t have found it (I’d already hiked 8 miles without seeing any art), but then I saw this rock formation that looked like a hand, pointing. I said to myself, “Okay, I can follow directions,” and I went where it was pointing. It looked like there would be a great view from up there anyway. When I got there, I turned around, and there were these stunning petroglyphs across from me! I’ve been connecting a little bit lately with my own Native American/First Nation heritage, and the desert southwest is too full of incredible ancient sites like this for me not to have seen any of them, so this was really a pleasant surprise.
After that, as you can see, it was a beautiful sunset drive home, but you have to be careful driving through the Nevada desert - you never know who you might see! 😁
While I was hiking, I saw people who were driving a huge pickup truck a good 2-3 miles into a restricted area. If you visit our national parks and monuments during the shutdown, please be respectful of the environment while you’re there. These sites are too valuable to be put at risk.🌿🌵🐿 #GoldButte #petroglyphs #rockart #NativeAmerican #Nevada #NevadaDesert #MojaveDesert #outdoors #hiking #nature #sunset #environment #nationalmonument #nationalparks #shutdown
