Aspiring to be a wild life photographer the kingfisher was alway somewhere in my mind. To get a chance to see one and eventually take a picture was a goal and a big step forward !
The funny thing is that while I was spending a week in a quiet area on Saturna Island, I have seen this bird coming and going all day. I was more looking for seals, eagles and ospreys, and this little bird was a pleasant distraction while I was spending hours laying on the grass overwatching the bay... I have then noticed that the bird had a surprisingly big head and a distinctive long bill that remind me of a kingfisher. I wouldn't dare call it a kingfisher convinced that it would take me way more effort to get near one.
Nevertheless I tried to get a few shots, walking discretely on the shore to come near, but everytime the bird would fly away across the little bay to exactly where I was sitting before. And obviously it would come back to where it was as soon as I turned back.
I then got this brilliant idea to have my girlfriend walking toward it and because I knew exactly where it will fly to I just hid behind that tree very low on the ground.
Eventually it worked ! And I was very proud of myself, as I am now to share it with you.
I would love to ear you guys if you have some similar stories
