Weekend movie roundup: Vox Lux. I had a graphic-design-gasm, the graphics were all gorgeous (scrolling opening credits!? Genius!). I’ve been tired out on school shootings in film but the one that opens this movie has a purpose and sets a tone.
Another group of incredible performances. I had mixed feelings about Black Swan so I’m down to say this might be my favorite performance by #NataliePortman
nails it every time. #RaffeyCassidy
excels (in two roles)! I haven’t seen the first film by #BradyCorbet
but I’m going to make sure to now, because I loved the way this film was laid out. Like a pop music fever dream, this is an interesting movie to consider alongside another getting-famous film to come out this year: A Star is Born. Way less straight forward, told in three parts, with an eerie score punctuated by narration from #WillemDafoe
(who’s inherent creepiness comes through even in his voice). Slow shots gave me a real 70s horror vibe, which, given the fairly tame content, gives a very unsettling feel.
Not a single one of these films was less than amazing! #VoxLuxMovie
