The nerves along this part of the spine are connected to the reproductive organs. Injury Prevention ••• This session in the gym I focused on injury prevention. These are just some of the workouts I do to help keep myself injury free. ••• 1. Banded walks 3 type of walks 3x10 (10 yards but I didn’t have much space in the gym so I had to work with what I had) 2. 3-way ankle reach, on foam pad 3x10 each leg 3. 3-way knee reach, on foam pad 3x10 each leg 4. Land on foam pad single leg with tennis ball catch 3x10 each leg(being able to land and balance while also focusing on something else) 5. Arch workout 3x10 (I do this to strengthen the muscle in my feet to fix my arch as I have very flat feet) ••• There are multiple progressions and regressions for each exercise so if you would like those, let me know in the comments. So why do Fascial Stretch Therapy? Or why stretch in general? I mean you already can’t touch your toes, your back aches for no apparent reason and you can’t reach the cookie jar on the top shelf because your shoulders restrict you. SHOULDER REHAB - PLANK TO PILLAR BRIDGE The plank to pillar bridge is a great exercise for shoulder, scapular and core rehab. It would be a later stage exercise for all of these so make sure you have been able to complete the previous shoulder exercises without any flare ups before trying it. You begin in the plank position on your elbows then move up onto your hands one at a time into the pillar bridge. Try to perform this exercise slowly and in control, so as there is very little movement of the limbs or trunk. It is a core exercise as well so it’s important to work the core by not allowing the body to move too much. Try is for 30 seconds, rest for 39 seconds and for again. Do this for 3 sets to begin with. How do I gain strength? How do I gain muscle? - I’ve already made two posts on this topic but I feel like this VERSUS REPRESENTATION would benefit many! - Most beginners are told to do 3 sets of 10 for each exercise they do! This isn’t bad by any means and it is a great suggestion to help build some initial strength, some mass and also on your stability! - Although, after a weeks/months of training, in order to maximize your progress and results towards your specific goal... you need to specialize your training program towards that goal! - A lot of people wonder if you should train within the high rep range, or the low rep range? And the answer to that question is goal dependent! - If your goal is to increase your strength, you should be working primarily in the 1-5 rep range! - If your goal is to increase your mass, you should be working more within the 6-12 rep range! - This being said! Training within any rep range will allow for increases in both strength and hypertrophy! - Training within the 1-5 rep range does not mean you will gain 0 size! That rep range is simply optimal for strength increase! While the the 6-12 rep range is optimal for hypertrophy increase! - Many coaches will use both sides of the spectrum in order to reach the specific goals of the individual they are guiding!

Practice makes perfect, right? 💁🏻‍♂️⁣ ⁣ It really does make sense that as we are consistent and persistent in our talents/gifts that we become excellent as a habit rather than as an act that simply occurs when we turn it on and off like a light switch. 🤯⁣ ⁣ To me this makes me think of the clinical world. Are we excellent? We all have experienced clinicians who certainly are NOT excellent. ❌❌❌⁣ ⁣ But why is that? I think some people just don’t really care. And that’s the sad reality. On the flip side some people are bad patients. 🤨⁣ ⁣ Whatever the case, as a physical therapist I will always do my best to be excellent and make that a habit. But you have to do the same in your life. Regardless of occupation. Regardless of your goals. Be excellent by doing excellence.⁣ ⁣ My final thought is regarding potential clients. If you are considering becoming a physical therapy patient, then you should be excellent. I don’t mean perfect. I mean excellent. Go all in and work hard together with your PT to solve your problems! ⁣ ⁣ Make excellence a habit in all facets of your life; in your relationships, your physical health, your education, etc. You and I have different gifts and talents, but we are all beautifully made. ⁣ ⁣ Go out there, be excellent, and make it a great day. Ankle pain [trigger points] - - The muscles you see in the picture above are called your peroneus, although some refer to these as fibularis. For today we’ll stick to the name that’s used in the picture above, peroneus. - - The peroneus muscles are located on the side of your lower leg, and they are responsible for everting the foot and plantar flexion. Planatar flexion is something you do in the morning when you stretch out your body from a good nights rest. Picture your arms overhead and legs fully lengthened to stretch out your body. If that doesn’t make sense, you also use plantar flexion when you’re driving a car 🚗 when pressing the gas ⛽️ pedal to the metal. - - Everting the foot 🦶 is bringing the side of your foot up towards your ankle or towards your knee. - - If you’ve ever experienced an ankle sprain you’ll most likely have some tenderness in these tissues from overstretch for them during the sprain. When you sprain your ankle, the odds are you will fall into the outside of your ankle, and from the trauma the peroneus gets lengthened and tensioned causing trigger points and ankle pain. - - Tag a friend with ankle pain

🔶Ankle Flossing by @ironlionpt. We need at least 10 degrees of ankle dorsiflexion for normal walking / gait patterns. If you are not getting this much ankle mobility then you are loading your knees too much with your squat and when walking!! Flossing is a technique that compresses the fascial sheath to allow the muscle to glide AND floss under the compression to give improved mobility! The flossing will temporarily compress the lymphatic system and some blood and once you unwrap the floss within 1-2 minutes you will feel a rush of blood nutrients back into your muscles!! 🔶To start: Wrap the Floss at a 50-60% intensity. Make sure to cover 50% of the previous thread of wrap while you are wrapping it around your leg. Leave on for about 1-2 minutes. Take off sooner if you feel tingling in foot (you may have wrapped it too tightly or left it on longer than it needs to be if you feel tingling). Then begin ankle range of motion exercises. In these videos you will see multiple ways we move through dorsiflexion, Plantar flexion, inversion and eversion.
