My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing was such a fun and twisted read! You just have to read it! 🔪
I first heard about this book from reading reviews on Bookstagram and it definitely lived up to all the hype!

BOOK REVIEW!!!! Well where do I begin. This book is written so well and it was fantastic.. I was hooked from the start to the end. Samantha has made an excellent job keeping the rhythm and thrill of the book all the way to the last page.
The twists and turns throughout was gobsmacking and the last one, wow I never saw that coming.
Well done Samantha, hope there is more to come 👌👌#MyLovelyWife #SamanthaDowning #bookreview #booksofinstagram
I absolutely loved #mylovelywife

and really didn't want to put it down. I loved the voice of the husband who tells the story. He's a family man who loves his kids and adores his wife. He comes across as a really decent guy who works as a tennis coach. His wife Millicent is the perfect wife and perfect working mother. She's one of those women that we despise but secretly want to be like, you know attractive, super organised with a lovely family. I'm not giving anything away because you're best going into this blind as it's a superb thriller. Okay just one thing, clear your diary and find a comfy spot, because you are not going to want to move once you start reading! It's only 99p on Kindle this month!
🤯🤯🤯READ THIS ONE🤯🤯🤯
If you love a good domestic thriller that marries shows like Desperate Housewives and Dexter, read this one soon. 🔪 🔪 🔪
Wow. Just wow. I was hesitant when I began this novel because the narrator was too relaxed about what was happening and it made me uneasy but then I realized that’s why I had to continue reading. I was impressed with the quick and raw writing, creepily relatable characters, and unique plot twists. It gripped me so much I had to read it when I was with my husband because I didn’t want to be alone. 😬 I would give it 5 stars but the ending lacked something for me. This is a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫! BOOK 27 2019 | MY LOVELY WIFE by Samantha Downing, narrated by David Pittu | This is a thriller about a married couple that kills women to get their rocks off. That’s the one-sentence pitch, and that’s really all you should know before going into the novel. I knew a little bit more, which ended up (somewhat) taking away some of my enjoyment of this book (more about that in a spoiler section below).
I need to stop reading super-hyped thrillers because they always disappoint me. While My Lovely Wife wasn’t the most disappointing, it was incredibly predictable based upon the non-spoilery blurbs I had read about it and the pitch many reviewers were giving about it.
That said, this is a hyped thriller for a reason—it’s a great thriller for most people. It has universal appeal, but like anything that has universal appeal, there will be some niches who just aren’t satisfied by it and I fell into the latter category.
However, two things bumped My Lovely Wife up from 2.5 to 3 starts for me: the ending (like the LAST page of the book) and the fact that a male takes on the traditionally female role in this thriller (the husband is constantly trying to figure out his place in his marriage and this weird killing-fetish situation, while his wife is calm, cool, and collected all of the time).
SPOILERY RANT: So reviews/blurbs describe this as Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith. 1. It’s absolutely more the latter than the former and 2. If you know ANYTHING about Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you’ll know one of the twists in this book immediately

I feel like I just got away with murder.
Let me recap it for you.
So I have this idea that if I form a book stack of books that I would like to manifest into my life, than maybe those books would begin to make their ways to my front door.
So, I begin scanning the fiction isles looking for books that I have been eyeing for sometime, and I begin to stack them into smaller stacks near my wallet on the ground.
I continue to pull books in a non suspicious way and continue to form bookstacks.
I get to the point where I have the majority of the books I want, and I decide to rainbow stack them from red to white.
I start stacking and now I’m looking at a hella tall, semi leaning, obvious, stack of books on the ground.
I have two employees in the corners of my eyes and I begin snapping photos of the beautiful babies.
I keep taking photos and videos, and adjusting their spines to make sure they are straight.
I get a photo I like and I put my phone down. Then I put the books back into alphabetical ordered stacks and began putting them back home on their original bookshelves.
And I never got caught. I could have killed someone and the employees wouldn’t have cared.
I know someone up the management and loss prevention train is probably laughing their butts off watching me on the camera film in the store. Because I know I would be.
So, what I’m getting at with this post is that I wish I could buy all of these, but I am practicing self restraint. I cannot afford any of these, let alone all of them. I am therefore hoping that the law of attraction comes into play and helps me somehow get to the point where I can own a few of these babies😂
I went a bit crazy this week with some book purchases when I realized my thriller stack was getting a little small 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve heard great things about My Lovely Wife and The Lies We Told! Both will be new authors for me as well.
As for Next Year In Havana, I love so many of Reese’s Bookclub picks that when I saw this one on sale I went for it! Always can use a solid romance. Plus it’s got a sequel that just was released earlier this month! So future book purchases there no doubt.
Reviews to come once I get through my ever growing Unread book pile! Is everyone’s book addiction as bad as mine?!
•My Lovely Wife• By Samantha Downing was the second Book I’ve read in April.
I’m a bit behind on posting, so I’ll try to post more consistently.
I gave this book 3.5 Stars.
I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been in a reading slump, I read too many thrillers, or the ending was just that predictable... or maybe a combo of all three. I just wasn’t as impressed with this book as everyone else seemed to be, unfortunately.
Don’t get me wrong, I was intrigued... I guess I was just expecting something more fast paced?
I also think my lower rating could be because I had such high hopes for this book... it wasn’t just the hype, but also the premise. A book with a Dexter feel and a seemingly perfect couple who kills to spice up their marriage? That seems like such an amazing concept.

April book picks! I have already finished The Night Olivia Fell and My Lovely Wife and they were both SO good. They are perfect if you’re going on vacation and need a good book to lose yourself in - They might not be as light-hearted as a typical beach read, but are definitely worth it! .
Beyond the Point is my @bookofthemonth
pick and I'm eager to try something a little different. My husband went to West Point, and I have visited once, so I think it will be fun to read a book that draws so much of his experience in. Book of the Month has been such a great way to try some different books and its only $14 per month for a hardback book. Link in my bio if you want to give it a try and right now, with the code AprilShowers, you can get a free book. It's a win-win .

Say hello to the wife @thegirlwiththewhisk
This was taken last weekend when we went to read at the cafe. Well, she mostly read and I took pictures for Bookstagram 😬
One of the side effects of bookstagram is that I end up drinking my coffee cold and weirdly enough I’ve gotten used to it!
👁🗨What’s something that you have sacrificed for bookstagram? Cold coffee? Less Netflix? Even less sleep? Anything else?

Thank you so much @berkleypub
for my free copy of MY LOVELY WIFE!
When a book description includes “Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, you know you’re in for a good time 😂. MY LOVELY WIFE is a story about a married couple that live in a wealthy neighborhood with their two children. Everything about their lives seem perfect except for the BIG secret that keep to themselves...they murder to spice up their marriage 😳.
The story is told from the POV of the husband. It’s incredibly creepy seeing all of the planning and execution of murders played out from his POV while mixing in the daily mundane things of picking up kids from school or getting together for family dinner. I thought the plot was original especially since domestic thrillers can feel a bit like you’ve read the same plot before.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The chapters are short and quick which is something I love in a book. It was smart and well-constructed which made it a great debut novel! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It seems that everyone knows you turned a year older except me. In my eyes, you are exactly the way that you were when I met you for the first time “stunning and gorgeous”Happy birthday my lovely n only one..

Happy birthday to the woman who inspires me to be a better person. Thank you for always showering me with love and affection. You are everything a man could ever hope for in a wife. I promise to endeavor to make you smile daily because you fill my heart with indescribable happiness.more grace to life
Alhamdulillah.smg Allah merahmati kita sekeluarga.
If you haven’t read My Lovely Wife, you NEED to! This was such a good thriller, and I flew through it. Easily ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me.
My Lovely Wife tells the story of a husband and wife, with two kids, who live a very seemingly normal suburban life...until you find out they’re very far from it!! This book had me hooked from page one and kept it up til the end. This is a book I would model my thrillers after - perfect combo of suspense but also normalcy, but not too outlandish (well, maybe a little bit 😊).
Have you read this one? What are some other good suburban thrillers you’ve read? Love this genre!
