Happy happy birthday to the one who made me a mom! With a due date at the end of March, no one anticipated your arrival now, at the end of January. .
I remember it as if it was yesterday... It was grading day so I was sitting at the computer. Baby Daniel was not as active as normal... So between phone calls to the clinic and trying to stay calm, I waited to Ambiorix to return from English class.
With the final call to the clinic, they asked us to stop by the hospital. Alright, I thought, no problem. .
We checked in, they started monitoring baby and getting my vitals. Baby's heart rate dropped to 78 and my blood pressure was fatally high, 200/120 😳
I didn't know, however, because the monitors was behind me. After a fluttering of nurses going in and out, I finally asked, " How long is this going to take?" .
The response... "You're having a baby today!"
Wait, what? It's too soon. He's not ready. How can this be? .
In that moment, when we didn't know what else to do, we prayed. Prayed that the doctors were making the best choice. Prayed that baby would be okay. And that I would also recover.
At 730ish on the evening of Jan 24, 2011, Daniel Jacob Torres was born, 8 weeks early. At 2lb 13oz, we praise God that he was breathing on his own, alert and beautiful. .
I woke up in the ICU due to crazy high blood pressure (HELLP syndrome) and it wasn't until Jan 26th that I finally met our baby Daniel.
Here are some of our favorite photos of his birthday 🎂 as well as how's he's doing now, 8 years later.
Happy birthday Daniel!
