🤞🏻 1 REP MAX TESTING 🤞🏻 • I have been slacking so hard lately😭. Being completely honest my motivation had gone downhill m a g o r l y. I haven’t trained properly the last 2 weeks which probably hasn’t helped with my motivation & have also noticed I’ve put on a little pudgyness but hopefully now I can kick myself up the bum and stop being on such a downer! • The above videos are from a few weeks ago where I was doing some 1 rep max testing. They have their purpose, and that's teaching external rotation of the hips when squatting. Once you have that figured out, they aren't helping you build the butt. - Do lots of hinge movements. Hip thrusts, deadlifts, stiff legged deadlifts, good mornings, etc. Those will strengthen the posterior chain and grow that butt muscle. - Focus on progression. Get stronger on those hinge movements and that butt will grow. - And stop smashing donuts post workout and justifying them for "booty gains." Eat some protein to feed those new gluteus assimus gains. How I’m doing close grip bench press 💭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Normal close grip bench, where the bar comes to around the bottom of your ribs and your arms stay at about 90 degrees, have never felt great for me. I could always do a nice amount of weight and would be exhausted after, but my triceps never felt that worked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This little change, although bringing the weight I’ll use down by a lot, places the tension wayyy more on the triceps. Here’s what I do 👇🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead of keeping my elbows directly under my hands, the stronger, normal position. I think “collapse the elbows” brining the bar pretty much straight down, touching my chest just about nipple heigh for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This gets way more elbow flexion, working through more of the triceps range of motion and places way more stress on the triceps. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although it does limit the amount of weight you can put on the bar, I actually think thats a good thing. Less weight = less fatigue whilst you’re still placing the same or more amount of stress on the triceps! That means you’ll probably accrue more overall volume which means more gains! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another important cue for this is to screw your hands into the bar so your elbows stay by your sides and tight. (Think bending the bar so your little fingers are brought together) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you already do this? The most common question is: "I haven't monitored my macros accurately enough and won't get in enough protein for the day. Do I sacrifice my protein intake by 0.000000346g and hit my calorie count, or eat the life-changing 0.000000346g to hit my protein but get instantly fat from going over my calorie allowance?" . Answer: Either. It won't make a difference. It's a long game. . But diving deeper, there are many surrounding factors which people spend a disproportionate amount of time on, for what they get back out of it: meal timing, the type of protein you eat, the type of carbs you eat, specific vests for specific muscle group training days ... the list goes on. . If we're discussing optimal muscle growth and health, it's so bloody easy. Just: . - Follow the 80/20 rule for your food (or any food protocol which you can sustain through PERSONAL PREFERENCE). - Only eat foods you enjoy. Nobody tells you what foods you like. - Eat in a calorie surplus. - Eat enough protein. - Prioritise compound movements. - Train each muscle group twice a week (Push Pull Legs is an ideal routine). If someone tells you each muscle group takes a week to repair, walk away. - Ensure you have progressive overload over time (increase in overall volume, this could be increasing the weight, more reps, or both). - Sleep enough. . For fat loss ... exactly the same, except calorie deficit instead of calorie surplus, and just maintain as much strength as possible. . That's all you have to do to get the body you dream of. This is a cool little comparison picture sent to @akashvaghela by @shiv_haria the other day. The one on the left is before his shoot, while he was losing body fat and heading down. The pic on the right is a couple months after the shoot in his muscle building phase now. The differences are subtle, but from the circles Shiv’s drawn, you can see the changes in shape and muscle mass already developing. One of the reasons Shiv’s been able to make these improvements is from a well-disciplined ‘reverse’ period after his shoot. Instead of making the common mistake of eating everything in sight for weeks on end, he’s implemented the 80:20 rule, been more ‘flexible’ with his nutrition to accommodate for socials, and shifted his mindset to performance oriented, instead of physique only. He’s now in a position where his food intake is higher, he’s still lean and he’s now in the perfect position for a lengthy period of building muscle! We know we’ve got a lot of people coming to an end of their dieting phase, and unsure what the next stage is. Is it ok to join a gym just because you enjoy the lighting quality of a selfie??😂😂😒 But in all seriousness, tried out @planetfitness for the first time and it wasn’t too shabby. I liked the layout from the 30-minute workouts to entire gym in general. The only negatives I took away were that there was only one leg press, not as many free weight variations and the contradictory signage posted on the ‘LUNK’ wall. For a place that says Judgment Free Zone, clumping people together that wear ‘bodybuilding shirts, carrying a gallon jug and judges others’ seems like you’re judging that group of people. But a ‘LUNK’ alarm though??🤔 Not everyone who wears that style of clothing or has a ‘bodybuilding’ style of training judges other people. Most often than not, if you see someone doing a movement that is potentially dangerous or just a quick tip to make sure they’re performing an exercise efficiently, wouldn’t you politely approach them with suggestions to HELP?
