So after 4 nights of getting almost ZERO sleep, last night I finally actually caught up!
Well, a little bit anyway!
I've been sleeping downstairs with Poppy (our puppy!), My husband has been doing some work in our room and it makes sense for me to stay with Poppy until she's ready to join us once our room is sorted... My middle daughter started waking... Partly from excitement I suspect as it started the night we got Poppy.
She would come downstairs all sad and inform me she had a nightmare and then cuddle up with me and Poppy... Poppy wakes every couple of hours, she can't get off the couch easily and so she winds up whining go go down... I'm not complaining as it's usually so that she can go on her pad or eat a bit of her food... As you can imagine though, between my daughter and Poppy and myself, all sleeping on my very old, tiny, two seater couch - it's been an interesting few days 😂🙈 I was talking to someone and letting off steam and they responded 'well, why don't you just make your daughter go back to bed?' Why don't I? ... It's simple... She knows that if she wakes, no matter the time, no matter how tired or frustrated I am... She knows... Mummy is there, she knows she is safe... And so it was a squash and a squeeeeeeeeeeze and last night, when my daughter finally slept all night, the couch felt huge (and a little lonely!) for just Poppy and I!
Even older children (who outgrew it) need cuddle time sometimes, even older children need to sleep with their parents some nights, to feel that absolutely safety! ... And sometimes, despite how exhausting it can be, Grown-ups need that too!
I'll never look back and think 'I wish I'd cuddled them less!' Xxx
