Perched on top of a mountain with my family. What a magical way to begin my 33rd year of life. 🧡
The Mount Baker Day Tour combined with the North Cascades National Park Day Tour make for an ideal multi-day Adventure to experience the wilderness in NW Washington. Just what Namita (from India) planned as an escape from her vacation in Seattle.
It's been a while since I've shared photos. That must be what the #365photochallenge
is all about? Whatever, I'm not doing that quite yet!
I've had some superb adventures this summer with @niksthekicks @firebolt89 @neppers812 @mikeymcallister
(and some others that don't use IG..so no honorable mentions). Now that #winteriscoming
I suppose it's time to start posting again!
This was my favorite shot at Troublesome Creek. Everything about our weekend there was perfect, which makes it hard to choose just one.
We couldn't understand how the campground was so underappreciated. Seriously, it was Labor Day weekend. We all know its notoriety for being The Last Great Camping Weekend™ (which I agree with only because it frees up the best camping spots for the rest of the year) but this place wasn't even filled up the entire weekend! The campsites were immaculate and solitary, facilities existed, weather was aces, the scenery was bomb..hidden treasures must still exist.
It was kind of 'rough' to get to (if your vehicle can't handle some light FS roads) but not "fording multiple rivers" impossible. If that's all it takes to keep these gems hidden, I have all the more reason to go down more Forest roads and see what else this state has to offer.
for all the recreation you've created! Until humanity manages to totally screw this world up, your lands will mean more to me than any TV show, video game, or even books (okay, that last one is a stretch).

🌅red sky at night, sailor’s delight⛵️.
This beautiful sunset marks the beginning of some really nice weather. Come hit the river before it’s over!
This Visitor Center with it's cozy fireplace was a beacon on a hill after our cold and rainy hike. We snuggled up with our snacks and watched a ranger teach the kids about mountain goats. What a lovely day.
all smiles for the last day of summer 😁
I’m gonna miss all the cold water swims but fall is my favorite season and I can’t wait for the colorful road trip adventures! 🍁🍂

Located in the backyard of Seattle, the Middle Fork Snoqualmie and Pratt Rivers are protected under the Wild and Scenic Act. The Forest Service is planning for the future of these rivers and needs your input! If you want to be involved in the process, check out our new online Collab map http://bit.ly/usfs-maps-wsr where you can submit comments and concerns about these two rivers! A pretty dog at a pretty lake.
I would like to go back here please.
Here we see one of my most iconic autumn shots, Mt. Shuksan, 2782m, (9127'), in North Cascades National Park, reflected in Picture Lake at Heather Meadows, which is within Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, in Washington State. Image taken October 1974 in 4x5 film format.

PHOTO TIP: When autumn colors appear on the foliage around Picture Lake, this image takes on a new dimension. It is one of the most sought after images for serious photographers in the state of Washington. Heather Meadows is reached by the Mt.Baker Highway, Route 542. Best to be here early, on a weekday, so you don't have to jockey for space to take this picture. Mid-day to late afternoon lighting is best here. Picture Lake is small enough that the water is sometimes calm even then.

Mt Baker Silhouette coat rack coming up!
Sun showers, a double rainbow, and late evening fog made for a dynamic experience at Mt. Baker that I won’t soon forget.
