Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where instead of shopping for muggle clothes, school supplies, books and the sorts, we instead have broomsticks, wands, witch/wizard uniforms, spell books and a magical pet on our list? And don’t forget about the odd sweets. It’s just me? Well carry on then.. ✨🧙🏾♀️🦉
Boyhood (2014) It was a light night for me, but I just finished watching this movie for the first time. The filming of this movie was done gradually over 12 years, with the actors aging naturally, and the story aging with them. At first, I was afraid the time covered would feel very long and very cumbersome but the transition is seamless and if anything adds to the emotions and the bond that I found myself having with the family. That being said, the film deals with some difficult subjects and doesn’t rely on cliche and ex machina to move the plot along. It's realistic and its sharp enough to have me on edge. The progression is mind-blowing, and the amount of arc and individualism that is packed into a movie about a boy growing up is new and its not easy, for anyone involved. I think that now more than ever this story will speak to anyone particularly parents or empty nesters. Everything including the music is very reminiscent and will attract people who grew up similarly in this period of time. It deals with family issues, personal agendas and how to cope with change in such a simple and elegant way for a movie that would typically be considered heavy. It just feels as though I watched a boy become a man in the shortest lifetime imaginable. 8/10
