Day 259 (CDT Day 72): 31 Miles
Regrettably I made the decision to leave Silverthorne on the GDA (Great Divide Alternate) as the amount of snow that was between 11,000 to 14,000 was significant. Although I was on the road, the day had some amazing views of Quandry Peak and the Mosquito Range. I arrived in Leadville and stayed at the Colorado Trail House which is an awesome place.
Day 260 (CDT Day 73): 28 Miles
Took advantage of an early morning hot tub and a hot breakfast before saddling up for the day. Leadville is a town steeped in history so I took my time leaving. Insane views of Mt. Massive, Mt. Elbert and a number of other 14,000 foot mountains throughout the day. Gives me an excuse to come back to Colorado, Nolans14???
Day 261 (CDT Day 74): 28 Miles
Mt. Harvard, Mt. Yale, Mt. Princeton and Mt. Antero loomed in my view all day. I camped just outside Salida right next to some donkeys. Cheeky little buggers.
Day 262 (CDT Day 75): 9 Miles
I got into town and completed my last resupply and round of town chores on this adventure. @clairedeve
was a CDT hiker I met in East Glacier who took me out for some beers and to the premiere of a film about FIB-ARK (a boat race down the Arkansas River). It was a really fun night talking trail and all things Colorado, crazy how tight this community of thru hikers is. 120 miles left to Creede, headed back up to Monarch Pass in the morning...let’s get it 👊
