Next book on my book list for the year...as I do a deep dive into Middle East history post-400 CE. .
I highly recommend Oxford’s Very Short Introduction series. Scholarly info on 100s of topics of various types in little books less than 200 pages. .
If I want to know a bit more about something, these are the books I go to. .
Should be a good companion to the Golden Age of Islam Podcast I’ve been enjoying as well... Check out: @oxunipress
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) David Slade
Spent an intense but enjoyable 4 days with Charis Methodist XS youth camp unpacking God’s Grand Story and how it reveals God’s wonderful wisdom and enduring love. Great bunch! #sterlingcampus #metanarrative

Day 7: “Ella Bella Ballerina and The Nutcracker” by James Mayhew. A very favorite for my little girl, not just at Christmas, but all year round. We paired it with a second version of the story as well, illustrated by Valeria Decampo, and based on NYC ballet’s production. My daughter & I went to see the show live last night (her first time!), & my hope was that these books would help reinforce the storyline so she could understand as we watched. Ella Bella books are a wonderful way to introduce classical ballets in accessible ways. Ella is a lovable little ballerina whose imagination whisks her into the world of the ballets she studies in class. In this one she finds herself living inside ‘The Nutcracker.’ The second book is beautifully illustrated & a little more straightforward regarding the story. We can’t wait to add it to our personal collection next year! ❤️ Beyond being a fun holiday tradition, The Nutcracker’s storyline is actually very appropriate for Advent: The prince has been put under a curse (made into a nutcracker) that can only be undone when the dark Mouse King is defeated. Battle ensues, the prince wins, & upon his victory, he is transformed & restored into his true self. Clara becomes his bride & he is taken away with her to a (Sugar Plum) paradise where every tribe, tongue, & nation is represented, & where beauty never ends. Do you see the parallels? At His first coming (Christmas!), Jesus initiated the battle which would break the bonds of sin & death, at His cross & resurrection He won, & now His Bride (the Church!) waits for Him to come again & bring us into Glory forevermore. I genuinely believe that every truly good story (the ones that stand the test of time & become beloved by the masses) points beyond itself to THE story — The (his)story of the world, the big story of the Bible. They become treasured by so many because they tap into something true about reality — reality which God created & ordains & sustains. Even if those watching or reading can’t name it, they can feel it, & they latch to its truth. Surely ‘The Nutcracker’ is one of those incredible stories. It leaves me so thankful for Jesus’ first advent, & longing for his second.
Day 3: “This is the Christmas Story” from @kidsreadtruth.
This is brand new from their team, and it’s beautiful in every way! Focusing on the theme of light breaking through darkness (especially the ‘light of life,’ himself — Jesus!), it’s a full biblical theology (meaning, it traces the full arc of the Bible’s big story), but in condensed and compact form, written in simple words and short sentences, perfect for little hearts and minds to comprehend. “The Christmas story doesn’t begin with a baby. It begins with a promise!” This little book has helped my children begin to see how Jesus’ birth is not only a story in itself, but a fulfillment of all of God’s Old Testament promises, and also our sure and steady hope for the Glory that is to come. Scripture punctuates every page, and the story is illustrated in unique, intentional, beautiful pictures. We give it a 10/10. ❤️

The event was held in a beautiful old church in downtown L.A. and the space, lit by candles and purple light was gorgeous. The moment the event began and sound wrapped itself around me, I was 'gone'. My human self slept whilst my consciousness traveled on a sound beam. I went 'home'. A place where I was deeply nourished, a place where I could dream a new dream for my life. 90 minutes later as the sound bath ended, I returned to my body, knowing that I had been very intentional in my dreaming, very precise with my requests. I had brought a new template through, a new creation, a new chapter for my life. .🧚🏾♀️.
So often I see people when confronted with troubling events and experiences in their life (relationships/health/money etc.) deeply examine thoughts, beliefs, inherited patterns of behaviour etc. in a desire to heal/transmute/transform them so that they can experience something else, create something else in their lives, something that is less challenging, more pleasurable. And yes, this is valuable and there is a place for that. .
HOWEVER, what is often overlooked, not tuned into, not tapped into is the META NARRATIVE of one's life. What did you come in desiring to experience in this lifetime?, desiring to create? And YES, you can choose again. You just need to go home, to the dreamlands, and dream again... .
I am opening up the container for my group work 'The art of being and becoming' for this upcoming month of work (4 sessions for $250 for incredibly powerful meta narrative work that raises one's vibration into a whole different stratosphere, smiles). Drop me a dm or an emoji below if you are interested and I'll get in touch. We start on Thursday and complete on the 18th of December.

Today we started the book of Numbers. One thing I’m already reminded of in the first four chapters is that God is a god of order and not chaos. It seems like just a bunch of numbers and censuses of the people, but it is so much more. I can’t wait for the story to unfold and for us to begin to see our need for a savior. I love how all of scripture is pointing to Christ. #metanarrative #bookofnumbers #coffee #studygodsword #countyourblessings

Stories captivate us. They stir up our imaginations and engage our hearts and souls. That’s why we can be grateful that one of the ways God reveals Himself to us is through story, not just a list of dos and donts or a series of propositions.
