I am Medusa
The misfit, the mortal
My birth, like your history, is a conundrum.
You define me as the offspring of a deity.
Illegitimate and hateful...
The mere sight of my grotesque features turns you to stone.
But what about the stone hearts that made me this enigma?
You obviate that above all, I am a woman;
Or maybe my feminine existence became my fall
when all your fragile masculinity stood tall.
Do you talk of the God
who demolished me,
shattered my soul,
wrecked my existence
in rancorous futility?
You sing of him as the God of the sea.
Then how come his heart was so petty,
so bestial to me?
My Goddess, the patron of Athens,
abashed me, cursed me,
banished me from my motherland..
Her rage made my skin
like a broken covering,
blaspheming me with serpent mane,
and eyes that turned males to stone..
Hence they formed a monster of me,
filled my heart with vengeance and frenzy.
My name means 'the protector', they say.
Yet no one protected me from the fate of my decay.
No wonder you praise them, hail them,
adore them with all your might.
'Cause you are no different,
just as wretched and vile.
You label me as the monster, never looking within your soul,
that broke me, ruined me and shattered my whole.
You beheaded me, hated me, cursed me the most.
Still you failed, for I am not lost.
I am the fallen, the misfit.
I know of no defeat.
I rise from the ashes of my ruin
I was the mortal, the banished,
but now I am the protector,
I am my own Queen. ~Medusa
