I grew up in Albany, GA. ❤️ during a time when everyone treated each other like Family. We didn't eat a lot of fast food.... We drank Kool-aid, ate bologna sandwiches, Vienna sausages, PB&J sandwiches, the ice cream truck, walking to the candy store for all the wonderful snacks ...now-or-laters (now-lattaz), cookies, pickles, sugar babies, Fritos, etc.
We went outside to play games like Simon Says, Mother May I, Red Light/Green Light, Hide and Go Seek, Jacks, Marbles, Tag, hop scotch, four square, water fights, kick ball, basketball, football, jumped rope and raced against each other in the street. There was no bottled water, we drank from the water hose.
We watched cartoons on Saturday mornings, rode our bikes for hours which perpetuated our well developed legs and bun-buns; all without a cell phone. We weren't AFRAID OF ANYTHING except our parents. If someone had a fight, that's what it was...a fist fight. Kids didn't have guns and never thought of taking a life, especially not their own. The street lights signaled curfew. School was mandatory. We watched what we said around our elders because we knew If we DISRESPECTED any grown up we would get HIT with whatever was near...and it wasn't called abuse, it was discipline!
Re-post (with a childhood pic if possible) if you're thankful that you came from a close knit community and will never forget where you came from! Wouldn't it be nice if it were possible to get back to this way of life?
