When I was in elementary school, my family took a trip to California. As I stood on the mountain overlooking the ocean with my Dad, I said, “I’m going to live here one day.” “Oh yeah?” “Yeah, before I’m 30.” (Because when you’re a kid, 30 seems so far away!) Fast forward to the age of 14 when I got my first job as a maid and my client asked, “Why do you want this job?” I simply stated:“I want to move to California.” Then college came and my focus shifted from working towards my dreams to simply being able to afford food and rent while working two jobs (one full-time, one part-time) and being in school. During my senior year of undergrad, however, my honors cohort chose “ambition” as the topic of our defense. As we studied what ambition meant throughout history and what it meant to the current day, my shift started to refocus: I was going to move to California.
That semester, I found a good looking graduate program, I applied, packed up my Ford Focus, and drove from Houston, Texas, to Malibu, California.
Now, three years later, I’m still here, sitting on top of a mountain in California, mapping out ways I can create content to help other people turn their professional dreams into a reality.
So if you have the drive to see your dreams through, let me know!
