Opaque tights, extra covers on the bed and switching lights on as soon as I get home - yeah, it's autumn. Je n'aime pas autumn. You can keep your beautiful colours and crunchy leaves, let's face it, it's just a slow decline into winter, or The Season of Overwhelming Cold and Dark as I like to call it. . But hey, I do like making one pot meals which are hearty and warming. I made this chilli based on a recipe from @bbcgoodfood but amended it a fair bit. I upped the veg content by adding mushrooms, garlic and sweetcorn to the red onion, carrot and aubergine already in the recipe. I also roughly doubled the quantities so that I can freeze some and eat the resr for days - I know some people would find this dull but I'll switch up the accompaniments and, well, I really like chilli! . One thing I haven't mentioned is this chilli is vegan. For real! It has a base of lentils, which also count as one of your 10-a-day of course. It's great if you're after a low-fat, low-calorie alternative to a beefy chilli. And I think it's really tasty. . It's served here with cauliflower rice and lower fat soured cream. When I find a little time, I combine cubed eggplant, spliced zucchini, chopped red onion, and mushrooms in a pan coated with Pam, fry just a tad, then sauté in water or chicken broth. Then, season to your liking...I love poultry seasoning but I do use onion powder, garlic powder and Italian powder a lot. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even decide to try ground turkey till a few years ago. I had always avoided it because of the opinions of others. Most of my friends would describe it as bland, dry, not appealing. Well...fast forward to today and I’m so glad that I didn’t keep everyone’s opinion. Ground turkey is delicious if prepared and seasoned to your liking. My suggestion?...experiment a little 😊 Turkey is also a low fat protein option that I now incorporate into my meal plans. Very heart healthy ❤️ Tonight’s burgers contain a little of this and a little of that, but to narrow it down a little, it contains shredded zucchini, liberal amounts of garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, ground mustard, Himalayan salt and pepper, a little poultry seasoning and 1 Tbs low sodium Tamari. I Grilled them 5 minutes on each side and topped with mustard, nom_nom 😋 On the side, is eggplant, zucchini, onion, and mushroom sautéed first in a little olive oil and then finished cooking in chicken broth. There are so many ways to season ground turkey. 2lb loss since I last weighed myself and I have no idea how as I'm still not on plan and my life has been a shit show for the last couple of weeks 🙄😶 maybe that's why? Maybe it's my arse falling out of me. I've not done any exercise but feel mentally like those hamsters in a wheel. 🤯🤯 So mentally and emotionally the last month or so has been tough and luckily I've recognised that before it's started to overwhelm me completely. I'm having to take a step back from a few things, because I know from past experience that if you aren't right in yourself you don't have the tools to deal with anything else. 🤪🤪 with my daughter down at the moment she has steered me away from some bad food choices as she's trying to eat well too and I think that's helped, but I know I need to eat better to feel better to cope with everything else going on. Today I got lost in cooking I thing I zoned out "sweating" the onions for about half an hour. A little bit therapeutic. Noodles, miso, ginger, vegetables, fake hoisin duck (faux pulled chicken cooked in hoisin sauce). And a runny fried egg! Comfort. Bliss. Yum. Got a bit of a dark cloud over me lately. Depression is getting a bit overpowering. I just want to hide away. I ditched the gym. Neuralgia bad, not slept in 4 nights and I have no energy and drive. I did enjoy making dinner (and eating it). I'm taking some time to myself to try and get my mental health back in check and get out of this dark phase. I wanted to create a post about a topic which concerns a lot of people.. anxiety! I myself suffer from a lot of different kinds of anxiety but it is already a lot better! By constantly facing your fears you make a step towards overcoming the anxiety.. my anxiety started already when I was a child and I was in treatment by the age of 6 already.. but to be honest the best and most important treatment you can have is by facing your fears, challenge yourself and don‘t let your anxiety ruin your life.. everytime you challenged yourself you get stronger and your anxiety gets smaller.. of course it isn‘t an easy task and you‘ll fail sometimes but a fail is NOT a fail in that way.. it is still a success because you tried! Accept your anxiety, have it with you but talk to yourself and tell yourself that the anxiety is only a very small part of your life and you will be able to live with it in a way you still can enjoy and be happy and social! Being skinny fat sucks. . You feel fine going out to social events, but get anxiety thinking about the one or two times each year you 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 have to take your shirt off in front of people. . You finally decide to get it together and take control of your body. . Before taking any of these steps, it’s important to note that getting a better body won’t bring you happiness directly, but putting in a consistent effort to better yourself will. . So . You want to lose your belly fat but you don’t want to look too skinny. . You come to the conclusion gaining muscle is the answer. . After spending a healthy amount of time on Google, you realize to gain muscle you’re going to have to accept the tagalong fat that comes with it. . But you don’t want to gain any more fat, that’s your main problem in the first place. . There are a few ways to go about solving the skinny-fat dilemma; I’m giving you the course of action my clients take. . Without further ado, here’s my skinny-fat protocol: . 1. Weight train 3-4 days each week. Track your workouts to ensure you’re getting stronger over time. Throw in cardio here and there depending on preference. 2. Eat at your maintenance calories, meaning the number of calories you need to stay the same weight. You don’t really need to lose weight -- although you might lose some -- you just need to improve your body composition. A simple rule of thumb to find maintenance calories is to multiply your body weight by 14-16 depending on your activity level. 3. You’re going to want to eat a literal metric eff-ton of protein to ensure you’re building muscle and replenishing the muscle you’re tearing down in the gym. 4. Be patient; this thing isn’t going to happen overnight. In your first month -- probably your first few months -- you’ll be able to burn fat and build muscle simultaneously. Eventually, you’ll have to pick one or the other to make the progress you want, so take advantage of the “newbie gains” you receive in the beginning. . When did all this mumbo jumbo about eating late at night start? . The stigma around late-night eating began when researchers found a correlation between those who eat late at night — specifically after 8 pm — and those who have a BMI considered obese. . This gave birth to a couple theories as to why the correlation exists. . The first theory is your metabolism slows down while you sleep, resulting in your body burning fewer calories. . The problem here is there’s no substantial evidence proving your metabolism slows down enough to slow weight loss or induce weight gain. . Your heart, lungs, and brain are still extremely active during sleep -- so calories are still being burned. . The second theory says you gain weight eating late at night due to elevated insulin levels. . There could be some merit to this idea in a sense that our insulin levels are higher at night than they are in the morning. . But if you compare your insulin levels at night to the middle of the day they’re the same. . This begs the question, does eating mid-day make you fat? . No, that’s ridiculous. . Now that we’re done with the science wumbo, let’s get to the take-home points. . It would be naive to say eating late at night 𝒄𝒂𝒏’𝒕 hinder some people’s progress. . However, the problem is more than likely 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 you’re eating, not 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 you’re eating. . If you’re like most people, your late-night snack isn’t all protein and vegetables, because who craves chicken and green beans at 11 pm? . If you have a 32 oz Coke, two Snickers, and a bag of Hot Cheetos, not only are you probably going to hell for that combination, you’re also eating and drinking an ungodly amount of calories. . Late-night snacks can be detrimental if you’re eating foods that cause you to overshoot your daily caloric intake. . In the long and short of it, eating late at night doesn’t make you fat; eating too many calories for an extended period of time makes you fat. . However, if eating late at night results in indigestion or issues with sleep quality then you probably shouldn’t eat late at night. . Oh my goodness!! This is next level tasty! Slimming world chicken "pizza" and sweet potato fries!
