Today I stepped out of my comfort zone and I went to an outing alone😱 It was terrifying but liberating! Trust me when I say I went kicking and screaming 😩I called everybody in my phone and even reached out to my ex 🙄(now you know that’s desperate 😂) But I had a feeling God was pushing me to go alone! So I went by myself and I survived! My anxiety kicked into high gear but I talked myself off the ledge! After I calmed down I was able to enjoy myself...it turned out to be a pleasant day! Remember back in the 80s and 90s when we were required to participate in P.E. Running laps around the basketball court, playing four square (aka box ball), flag football, volleyball, softball, jump rope and so on. Do you remember how much fun you had and never wanted it to end? Do you also remember how bad you were at playing all those sports but still played because you enjoyed the time being outside instead of cooped up inside in the boring math/science/English class. Let's be kids again. Let's go outside and play. Let's have fun even if we are horrible at playing sports. Let's go dancing like it's out of style. Let's leave the binge-watching for a cloudy, rainy day. So yes, fitness should be fun. 🤸‍♀️

After my first F45 challenge I was feeling low and down about myself. I’d only lost 6kg while other people were getting massive numbers.... . I couldn’t see any results and it was all really disheartening... but now, looking back at my before and after pics, I CAN see a difference and I am proud of how far I have come. While I still have a lot of work to go yet, my before and after this time round are going to be better. Dealing with a weight loss plateau? AKA you feel like you’re doing everything right and yet that damn scale still isn’t budging? 😒 ⠀ First, I know how frustrating it can be and I know how tempting it can be to go to extreme measures in order to start see it moving again. Been there, done that...I assure you. 💯 ⠀ Now before you go starting some crazy detox or doing 2 a days in the gym, take a step back and remember this: ⠀ 1️⃣The scale is an imperfect measurement of fat loss. Just because the scale isn’t changing, it does not mean you’re not losing fat. A number of things affect your weight including your hydration levels, whether you did a tough workout recently, hormonal changes, etc. Try taking progress photos or measurements instead. 2️⃣Take a step back and make sure you’re being honest with yourself on your nutrition and exercise habits. Are there areas you have been slacking on and could stand to improve? ⠀ If you do some searching and find you’re doing everything good, then it may also just take some time to see the changes on the scale. In the meantime if it’s been stuck for a while (more than a couple of weeks), don’t do anything extreme as this will likely cause more problems in the long run like an unhealthy relationship with food and metabolic damage. 🚫 ⠀ Instead, try utilizing some of the tools in the 2nd column like making adjustments to your macros/calories (adjusting doesn’t always mean dropping FYI - this could be as simple as changing around the distribution of fat, protein, and carbs), taking a diet break to give your body time to reset, or trying a new workout type. ⠀ Remember, this WILL pass. You’re in it for the long haul, so don’t stress too much. It happens to everyone at some point so just have faith in what you’re doing and keep on trucking. 😀

Is whey protein really whey better than everything else?⠀ .⠀ When you first start that you exercise programme you immediately start shopping for protein powder.⠀ .⠀ It’s like a primitive instinct. Because if you don’t have whey protein after you train, what’s the point in training, right?⠀ .⠀ Well, protein powder isn’t essential. But it is convenient.⠀ .⠀ And if you’re going to have protein shakes, why might whey be the best option?⠀ .⠀ At rest and post exercise whey protein has been shown to outperform casein and soy alternatives.⠀ .⠀ Why is that? Well, it’s mostly down to the higher leucine content and faster digestion / absorption rates.⠀ .⠀ But…⠀ .⠀ That’s only part of the story. Because preventing muscle protein breakdown is also important.⠀ .⠀ And this is where casein takes the lead… So what does that mean in practical terms you might ask?⠀ .⠀ In simple terms, casein is a better choice before bed. So, my every rep begins with the retracting of my scapula as far as back as possible, to pull my arm, followed by my biceps to pull the weight up, in order to get that squeeze. On the eccentric phase, I am releasing the contraction on my biceps to lengthen my arm, followed by protracting the scapula to stretch out the lats. This way I am initiating the movement with my lats and upper back first and then followed by my biceps, not vice versa, which is THE MISTAKE in most cases. So always initiate with the muscle group intended to train and rest will fall in place. La sana alimentazione non è una privazione ma uno stile di vita. Last night, I took my hubby out for a special dinner for his 30th birthday. The waiter took this photo of us with our giant seafood platter, and I cringed. . I harp on about the importance of having a healthy body image, but that doesn’t mean I’m perfect. . I definitely still have moments where I don’t like photos of myself, or certain clothes don’t fit me the way I want them too. . I don’t even know why I don’t like this photo - but I sure as hell didn’t want anyone else to see it. I almost deleted it from my phone. . But here’s the thing: years ago, this photo would have sent me on a week-long junk food binge (emotional eater right here 🙋🏻‍♀️) and then I would have tried to starve myself (aka diet) to lose weight. . Now? I just looked at the photo and thought ‘well that’s not my best look’ and stopped myself there. I didn’t allow myself to wallow in it. I didn’t allow that negative downward spiral into self-hate. . And I’m using it as an opportunity to remind you that self-love and self-acceptance are not a linear path. You’ll probably still have ups and downs, like I do. . But you’ll be in a much happier & more stable place when you can learn to accept yourself just the way you are. . ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 . Hayden got his EEG and MRI done and it showed he no longer has ANY seizure activity in his brain! Which means we can start taking him off his Epilepsy meds. Fingers crossed they don't come back
