What a lovely run with @trinetteshep (I also stole the photo from her!). The goal was 10k at an average pace of under 13 minute miles and a final push on the last half a mile got us there! I couldn’t have done it with Trinette and also was second fastest 10k ever! Lovely steady pace and was great to have someone to run with and who kept me motivated especially towards the end! I think I need to intersperse my marathon playlist with motivation quotes! So I don’t normally post my runs when they are just round housing estates on the pavements but this one I feel pretty relieved about!! Certainly not my quickest or furthest run but I took a bit of a rest after the Isle of Wight then when I planned to start training again I was hit with a pretty horrific stomach bug. 🏅Medal Monday🏅 Throwback to London Marathon last year. The hottest London marathon on record but such an amazing experience! Surrounded by people that had travelled from all over the world to compete in the same race. . The first half of my race I didn’t need my headphones in, the atmosphere was incredible. The streets were rammed with supporters but after careful planning I still managed to spot my parents and boyfriend in the crowd. I’m recommend to anyone running a major event, such as London, is to work out before race day at what points they’re going to stand at. It helped me as it kept me distracted knowing the next point I’d see my friends and family. . Good luck to everyone running London this year. I hope your training is going well 😊 The hours of training are worth it for the end result! To try and prevent injuries since starting my marathon training I’ve booked in for a regular sports massage and today was massage day. Eva at @sweat_southsea gives a brilliant sports massage and loosened up my tight calves with her amazing massage skills. Absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a good sports massage. Everyone is good at something. A lot of people ask me how i run marathons and how i run up mountains. It's simple....i just enjoy it and i indulge in my surroundings. My advice to anyone who thinks they can't run: -Invest in a good pair of running shoes. -Warm-up -Get rest and recovery days -Make sure to fuel and hydrate -Run outside -Push yourself past your comfort zone -Believe in youself. If you believe you can you will. It's all about taking that first step, even of you walk most of your first mile. W7/D1 (how did that happen!) - I did things the opposite way round tonight. Had an amazing nutritious dinner made by @bigsanny80 then split my Easy 6 miles into 2 runs so that I could fit Body Pump in too! Having dinner first definitely helped keep my energy levels up as I was struggling earlier today. My legs felt good on my run considering they were pushed to the limit yesterday 🙈then I (maybe stupidly) decided to up my weights for the squat and back tracks at body pump. I’m sure I’ll regret that decision tomorrow when I can’t move 😬 All in all a good Monday and I seem to be managing to fight this cold off. What keeps you running and hiking? I love to run and hike for a lot of reasons.  I love to feel myself getting stronger during training.  I love the light-headed, happy, contented feeling I have after finishing a run.  I love the feeling of being a team even when competing with strangers. New week, new mindset. After the worries 7 days ago of needing an extended rest, today I’m putting all that behind me and focusing on what’s coming up. There’s a big week of training to be done, and I’m feeling positive again 😊 • Ticking off yesterday’s long run successfully was a big deal for me. My body is feeling better and the stats from Sunday mean the self-doubt is thankfully gone again (for now). Having a positive mindset really does help - it gives me the courage to tackle the sessions head on and get as much out of them as I can. I’m still sensible, and I don’t take any risks - it just means I don’t spend the miles worrying and holding something back when it’s not necessary. • Today I took the late decision to reintroduce Monday’s 5 mile recovery run, after dropping it last week. It went well and it felt good to be out there! I’m still going to tinker with the plan whenever I need to, but right now I’m happy just to be back on it. • Hoping everyone is niggle free after their weekend miles, and looking forward to the week ahead! Happy Monday! 😁😁 • Starting this week as I mean to go on a the past two weeks mid week sessions have been a shocking effort from me(I have no excuses). However, this week I’m making my mid week sessions a priority. This is not only to keep my fitness levels, stick to my training plan etc. but also to prevent me from injury. If it was easy then everyone would be doing it right? . Yesterday was seriously tough and a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. The race start was an uphill followed by 4 miles head on into the wind and rain. For the first time ever in a race I seriously considered a DNF - the only reason I didn’t was the fact I couldn’t bear the thought of walking 4 miles back to the start 😂 . I perked up at mile 5 when the route turned away from the wind but the respite was short lived as I soon discovered it was mostly uphill to mile 8... but what goes up must come down and the next mile was sweet winding down and around... oh hang on there we are back into the wind again and back up ANOTHER hill. Did I mention that I hate hills?! . Mile 12 arrived and I started chatting to a lovely lady who had unwittingly paced me the whole way. We traded moans about the wind/hills/rain, shared our hopes that the famous Strathaven Striders lentil soup would be on the post race menu (it was 😍) and together we sped (jogged) our way downhill towards the finish. . Two pipers greeted us at mile 13 which was an amazing boost and we powered up the final hill towards the finish line. Soaked to the bone but absolutely delighted to smash my first half marathon distance this year... You can tell by how pale I am that I wasn’t well though and 48hrs later I was in hospital with suspected sepsis 😳 I have been chipping away and rebuilding my health and fitness slowly since September (a wee blip over Xmas where I ate terrys choc orange as if Brexit meant I would never taste again!) but generally, I have been getting fitter and stronger. In terms of distance and speed, I am nowhere compared to where I was, but I did a little interval session today and it felt good! I said no marathons this year, and I’m not signing up for anything yet, but if I can get to may injury and illness free, I may sign up for either Loch Ness of York! W7D1 Rest day and #medalmonday from yesterday's #craftyhalf not surprisingly I'm a little beer'ed out this evening so celebration fizz it is. I would recommend a beer half marathon to anyone who enjoys beer and running. Even if the copius amount of free beer slows you down on the second loop, it's a perfect mixture of trail race, beer festival and pub crawl. Bring on week 7 of training, I think I might be more than a little bit up for it 🍾💪🏃‍♀️

RACING. WHY DO WE DO IT? . Why? We decide we want to do a race. . We go on the internet, find the race we fancy. . We pay anywhere from £30 right the way through to £200 to run on roads that are for 364.5 other days of the year, absolutely free to run on. . We structure 4 to 6 months of our life to train for it. . We disturb our family life. . We disturb our social life and alienate ourselves from our friends. . We bore the socks off people in work about it. . (not me, I work with runners . . .) . We pivot the decision to do a race on the "bling" (medal) or the goodie bag. . Or, . Based on a novel feature of that race . . . . And then, we sit and compare our times against people we don't know, have never met and will never know or meet. . So, why do we do it? . Whats your reason? . I can't imagine a life without competing now. . It's something I love. I love the stampede over a start line. . A neck and neck finish. . An appreciative handshake to the person you've shared the final mile of 26.2 with. . Going in to the shop and picking the next pair of trainers to take you on your journey . (and watching the missus show forced interest!) . Most of all, I love the people I meet, the clients I've helped and the life it has given me. . Racing. Why do we do it?

Monday Motivation . . Keep smiling and always look for the positives. . . I’m still under the weather but I did make it back to work today. It wasn’t easy, but getting off the couch and getting some sense of normality back is good for my head. . . As most people know I will be running the London marathon this year and it’s now only 10 weeks to go! I will be running for the Institute of Cancer Research and in memory of my dad who passed away at the beginning of last year after his battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, he was just 59 years old. The ICR directly fund and complete the research to hopefully find a cure for this horrible disease.
