Lichen day number two! I hiked up Mount Pisgah to collect some trail kicked mosses and reindeer lichens and was rewarded with tiny scenes of intricate beauty. There are so many more species up here than I realized, and I can't wait to get back up here with a real field guide! The first few shots are from up on the peak - I espeically love seeing the lichen acting like a tiny understory under the blueberries! Scroll through to see the terrariums I put together.
[Photo 7] It's a little hard to tell in the picture, but this formerly big, beautiful puff of reindeer lichen has a big ole boot print smushing it clear through. Lichen are very slow growing, and extremely brittle when dry. please, when you're hiking around, avoid these fragile, three dimensional friends.
[Photo 8] Shadow is absolutely loving his new leash from @washashorestore
, and I'm loving that's it's made from salvaged nets! .
