Today is world mental health day! 🧠 .
Did you know people in the veterinary field have high rates of anxiety, depression, and even suicide?!
Veterinary professionals have a tough job! We treat multiple species, our patients can’t talk to tell us what’s wrong, we just have to know and figure it out. We work long hours, spending all that time away from our own pets who we miss terribly, so we can ensure your pet is healthy, happy, and vaccinated! We do that because we love our jobs and are called to serve pets and their people!
We advocate for our patients on a daily basis because we want what’s best for them and their family. We don’t just pull answers out of the clouds or make stuff up on a whim. We’re educated, compassionate, caring, loving people! That’s right, we’re people! We laugh with our patients and their families, we cry with them, we celebrate milestones with them, we mourn with them, we chat with them, and when you say hurtful things, we hurt too! Probably much more than you could ever realize! Be kind to your veterinary team members, they love your pet more than you probably think or know they do. To those patient advocates: don’t give up! You’re making a difference. You’re an example to others and an inspiration to many! .
And for those who are struggling with mental health issues, stress, thoughts of hurting themselves or anything else, please reach out. You matter! You are loved! And we care! .
