Motivation is a tricky one and I’ve found that when my clients know, broadly, it’s source, it can help them focus their efforts.
Motivation is either intrinsic or extrinsic. This means it either comes from within, is driven by a desire to succeed, or for personal satisfaction or, if you will, can be seen as ‘running towards’ something. Extrinsic motivation is the opposite - it is driven by external factors. Pressure, the need to avoid something, perhaps punishment, fear of failure or, if you will, ‘running away’ from something.
Being aware of what drives your motivation will help you better focus that motivation, and, if appropriate, re-frame it to be more productive. Generally, It’s better to be in control (running towards something) than out of control (running away from something). #motivation #digitalagency #publicspeaking #leaderahip #leadershipdevelopment
