Seeing the light 💡! This weekend I've managed to expel some major confusions and blockers in my creative process. Sometimes it's liberating to just hit some random keys until something sounds nice but knowing the why and the how becomes very difficult. Knowing the why saves so much time in the studio that could be spent on other things.
I was locked in on the weekend because of the bad weather so I was limited to my iPad and Korg gadget which is what is running in this picture. While I was playing with various synth parameters, I noticed the scales option on the software. This is new for me, I noticed that gadget emphasises the scale notes and chords giving you a musically guaranteed domain to work in. This was pretty cool.
I found that some scales sounded sad while others sounded happy. I then discovered that I really liked the Egyptian scale 🇪🇬. After this I made something nice in gadget, checked the notes on the piano roll, then went to the Minilogue and my piano to play around with the Egyptian scale while learning more about it on the interwebs 🤓. Pretty neat way to know where you are on your keyboard and stay in key for all the instruments. The knowledge gathering continues... What's your favourite scale?
